Can anyone id this, I think its SBC but haven't seen one in a while . Just wondering if its worth going to look at.
bowtie mill with a slushbox... not much there, specialy since the pic is taken of it layin in the gr***
This is an example of the Bellius ****onus Genericus CheviSmallBlockus. They gather in packs and roam around in Corvettes, Camaros and Early Fords. Side effects include yawning and in higher powered examples sweeping up bottom end pieces. These are to be treated with caution as you may trip over them.
if it was rare early corvette with the correct numbers on the block and heads, there is some potential it could be worth some $$$$$$ . if the engine is some ordinary 283 from a `66 chevy impala it's not worth much.. the Powerglide as a core is worth $75-$100
From the photo the oil pan could be of some use. Numbers are always usefull in figuring out if it's worth something which you probably already know. Like rq375 said, seems like their all out of Corvettes. Pan just might be though.
Did ya ever wonder where the big field full of vettes with no motors is? I know its got to be out there somewhere.
That is definately a SBC. You know come to think of it I have NEVER seen one for sale that wasnt out of a corvette.
If it was out of a vette it would have to be a 62 or up and therefore would be a 327. If it is a 283 and aluminum PG it does not come from a vette, since 57-61 vettes used the old cast iron PG. More like a p***enger car of 63 up if 283.
The pic is too small to really see a lot, but.... The heads have 7 bolt holes for the later exhaust manifolds It also looks like it has a bigger balancer than a 283's hub or little 6" ish balancer. It has a truck or corvette 5 quart oil pan on it. Side mounts so its not a 265 or early 283 Only 2 core plugs, and smooth sides, so its not a 400. I bet its 350. That is an aluminum powerglide behind it too.
A friend of mine's father owned a used car lot/performance shop back in the late 50's-60's he dealt with "sports cars" almost exclusively. when he first started it was vettes and t-birds then gradually moving into more british stuff. lots of his cars went to race tracks in the area, namely limerock to be raced on the weekends. lots of the guys who bought vettes would find out that all that power couldn't be put to the ground on the outdated ch***is of the time and would be back within a month because they balled up the vette to buy a british sports car that handled better. He said he had more than a few guys bring vettes that were only a few months old to him to trade for something else. seems to me alot of those vettes had their lives ended early with good drivetrains left.
