Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by kiwijeff, Mar 4, 2009.

  1. Got some old mags and im thinkin they made in new zealand or australia. They have HQ stamped on the back. Theyre alloy type and fit holden stud pattern. Ive cleaned one up over the last few nights and what a ***** of a job! lol. Can anybody ID them for me? Just been told a local vanner just loves polishing old mags, so ill farm the job of polishing out to him as my arm and hand feel like they gona fall off!:) thanks.

  3. Looks like an older Dragway style, they are familiar for some reason? Try sending them a pic and asking?

Yep Wards, made in the mid to late 1970's and I remember they were damned expensive too. Check out back issues of NZHRM for pictures of their ads .Check them real close if if you are going to be running serious horsepower through them because they were cast and NZ's quality wasn't exactly top notch in those days. The Only NZ made mags in the 60's were B/C's steel rimmed offerings (I had some of the big heavy ****ers) and Croydon Thompson from Otahuhu who made a few sets ,some of which were insanely wide.

Yep they're Wards, made in Palmerston North. The company changed it's name to Aldic and then closed down in the late 80's I think.

  7. was there anything in NZ that didnt come out of palmerston north? haha

  8. Thanks guys. they do remind me of dragways. I went looking through some old hrms but couldnt find ad for company. Think i remember it. Had no idea they were made in palmerston north.I think ill clean em up and leave em in the lounge for now. payed $100 for em, so i guess i got a good deal. They seem in resonable condition under the ****. cheers.

Not a bad looking wheel, nicer shape than your standard jelly bean wheel.
