Was out tapping trees this morning in a new area and stumbled across an old 57? Studebaker in the back of the sugar bush. Body is shot but the engine is intact and has never been touched all these years. Two barrel Stromberg OHV engine. Any idea what the engine is and is it worth anything? Can't remember much about these old Studes. Any ideas?
Engine is probably a 259 or 289. What model is the car...Hawk, President, ?????. Can you get casting numbers off the block and heads? Jon
Will be back there in the next few days so I will take some pics and get numbers. I'll post them up when I get back. Walt
Yes, Studebaker used basically the same V8 from '55 to '64. No, they're not particularly rare or valuable. Maybe, if it is complete and not froze/busted, it is worth maybe $100 for a 259" and $250 for a 289" as a core. The s/n is located on the front top of the block next to the oil filler tube. Get that and I can tell you exactly what year and displacement it is. thnx, jack vines
If you don't take the engine, at least unbolt the rocker arm ***emblies and take them along---popular with the early Cadillac rodders.
Makes a unique rod engine . Shares a few parts with Caddilac of the same era . Manifolds , I believe are interchangable , so a multicab isn't too hard to find . The trans may be of interest if it's a standard , particularly an OD trans which Studebaker used a lot of .
