Autorama Detroit Thursday Shots in the basement

Wasn't this car a build that was done in the 50/60's originally?

I feel like I saw something written about it in a magazine... But I'm at work and can't check my stash o' mags.

Looks like someone "updated" it...

 

looks like it started life as a '55 pontiac?

yea i know who owns that 51 his name is Larry Douglas, super nice fellow. for the best odds of catching up with him he will prolly be in Gene Winfields booth. Super nice guy though im sure you would enjoy talking to him he has been around customs for longer than i have been alive. He also has another merc with a Gene Winfield fade chopped hardtopped etc done by then man himself(it fades from a yellow on top to a darker red. there is prolly some pics of it on my profile here but if not heres a link to some pics

and yes the hubcaps are handpainted

man his other merc is on a whole nother level then the black one in the ba*****t!!!

 

yea he bought the black one pretty much as is, chopped etc, hes had the interior and bumpers rechromed and i think he had to have the chop redone around the back gl***, and a few mechanical things etc. but yes its a super nice car. winfield is comin down after detroit to redo a few things on the yellow one

 

i didn't know winfield was going to be there this year, i met him last year and he was super nice

 

last i heard he was supposed to be there, and then hes comin to our area to work on the other merc for a few days. im pretty excited to meet him....

 

you can say "hey man your caps look like ****" lol.

yeah I think there was a thread on here about it a couple of months back where someone was trying to buy it and supposedly it started life as a 55 Chevy .

 

Wow the Line-X Chevy got my attention....didn't realize we were around long enough to have that much patina on a logo!

That abortion is an original Barris Custom that won the 1959 Cincinnati World of Wheels show. It might not be your cup of tea, but how many original Barris cars do you see around today? And the owner ****gy drives the piss out of it. He pulled it from a bar got it road worthy and hasnt touched it. You need to see it live to appreciate it.

But did it have the ridiculous flame throwers, stupid *** shift pole, and was it really named the golden rat. Well maybe the rat name was original but some of the other stuff added is like farting on a turd.

Gene's here. We were just partying with him at the bar tonight. Got a video of him and Megan cutting a rug on the dance floor. Awesome live band. One of Gene's best buds lives here in town, Bob of Sha-boom fame. Gene stays with him.
