    Part #13

I finally got all the masking tape off the body and will now attach all the body hardware. I also fitted a custom built bracket to the transmission for the emergency brake handle. I had to carefully cut and fit an opening in the floor panel for the emergency brake handle. It went well, but took a lot of time fitting everything together many times to get it just right.

The second photo is one taken off the wall in my shop (Eagle Squadron hangar). I thought that you might enjoy seeing it.

    Part #14

My weekend is coming to a close and I'm happy with what I finally achieved in the "Eagle Squadron" hangar on my 32 Spitfire. I started saturday morning with high hopes of getting a lot done but as most of you know there are always a few set backs and normal interruptions. When we disassembled the deck lid and trunk metal I forgot to take photos and we somehow misplaced the bolts an screws. That cost me a lot of time.....like I said always take a lot of photos!!!

Today I went to Ace Hardware (Ace is the Place!) and picked up plenty of stainless screws and bolts. Things fell into place and I was able to to install the tail lights and complete the trunk area. I also installed the cowl vent and both door handles. It is always nice to end up getting a few things done...done right!

Thanks Nick, blackout and Harms Way for your encouragement!

I forgot to mention I used So. Cal 39 tail lights. These are traditional style with the old fashioned light bulb. They incorporate a bright white inter housing to produce more light.

    moter,

I haven't given the license plate to much thought yet. I did find an original Ohio 32 set last summer. They are the shorter plates (I was told back then Ohio made the plates longer as more were made during the year to accommodate more numbers). So I might need someone to build a custom stainless steel frame for them.

    Part #15

My chief mechanic, Doug Frautschy, showed up for a quick lunch and laid out the emergency brake cables. I had the emergency brake installed with a custom-made bracket, but now need to make a couple more brackets for the two cables. (The emergency brake & cables are Lokar from Speedway)

I did get the door handles put back on and the cowl vent works smootly! (some progress!)

    Kailuaz,

Your absolutely right and this car is in honor of the "Few" American pilots who flew those awesome Spitfires with the British before the US entered the war and is also dedicated to everyone who served!

    Nick,

I'm with you......... we are getting a little closer every day. I can't wait to put the body on either but we have all these details to finish up on first.

    Part #16

I finally completed the installation of the main braket for the emergency brake cables. You normally wouldn't think this would be a big deal but there was almost no access to drill and tap the frame from underneath. With a 90 degree drill and cut off drill bits I was just able to drill the holes then tap them very carefully. I painted the bracket satin flat black and installed it with stainless steel allen bolts. The photo from underneath shows what I was up against. I know the "pro" rod builders would blow right through things like this but for a rookie like me it just requires extra time however when it works out like today I'm very pleased!

    Part #17

This one is for my buddy Nick (60'shotrod)...finally some sheet metal on the frame in the form of one of the most beautiful gas tanks ever designed...the 32 Ford tank! You know the more I study, not just look at my 32 Ford I realize just how awesome the entire body, gas tank and the total sculptured body design is!

My chief mechanic Doug Frautschy hopes to finish up on the emergency brake cables tomorrow (come on Doug you can cut those nice cables!). It's been kind of a slow but overall a very productive week. Next week we will be starting on the fuel line and installing one of Frank Wallic's F1932hog@aol.com awesome custom bomber bench seat. Stay tuned!!

    Happy weekend to everyone!!

They are WWII "Identify Friend of Foe" lights that were run on warplanes. Light up in a predetermined order, the ground could tell if in incoming plane was a good, or a bad guy at night.

    Part #18

Saturday "Chief Mechanics" Doug and Paul stopped by on the way to the feed mill. They finished up the emergency brakes and made plans for some final adjustments on the transmission and rear end. I really appreciate them taking time to help and teach me along the way!

I'm currently working on attaching the seat sliders to the bomber seat this week and installing it as soon as I can.

    Part #19

It's been a very busy week working on many little details. Doug and I made a couple final adjustments to the rear axle and ladder bars. We got some gear oil in the rear end and started on the gas lines.

I've been working on installing the seat sliders and the seat. I had to temporarily install the dash and steering wheel today to get the right position of everything. It's amazing how one thing effects several others. I thought you all would like a sneak preview of the dash installed in the 32 Spitfire!

The high point of the day was Frank Wallic F1932hog@aol.com who made the bomber seat and is a "traditional style" rod specialist called in the morning and Gary Mussman from Cornhusker Rod & Custom called in the afternoon to see how things were coming along. You can't go wrong listening to these two rod specialists!!

    Have a fantastic weekend!
