The B400 and the '33 are pretty cool cars considering they are contenders...

These shows and awards just aren't relevant to my passions at all. That doesn't mean the cars suck or anything - it's just that they aren't my thing.

I sure can apreciate all the time and effort....I've worked on high end cars.....but, in my opinion, it's a boring car. And when are builders gonna realize brown is the color of doo? Very well done, though. Pretty neat to see the in-the-process shots of the billet parts. Cool.

heh, I wish my doo looked that good.

Joe, I'm going to start a sinuous build thread. Are you at the show?

  7. I know opinions are like assholes but some of this stuff seems like it would be obvious. I can't be the only one.

The Lobeck car is pretty heavy-looking with that grille & "overstuffed" top. The wheels/tires look really small... especially on the rear. Wonder why the rear end is so narrow? A few more inches of width & a set of 7.00/7.50 rear tires would help that car a lot.

This kind of $$ spent should yield more than PT Cruiser taillights, mid 1990's Tuned Port Injection, wheels that weren't popular for more than 8 months in 1989, & rear ends that really should be wider.

Not one of those cars makes me really feel anything. I feel no passion for them at all. It's kind of weird and each year it gets more like this. It's like they have no soul to me. All metal and plastic almost like a new car.... I feel a lot more for Dreadman's A. In my opinion they are the pinnacle of street rodding.

This is not a slight to the talent that built these cars.

When I first saw this car, I didn't look twice. I have to admit, I have a different appreciation for it now. Thanks for posting the pix and good luck.

Thanks Big AL... You're the bestest!

I think that's the 'thing' for me about the '35... you really don't notice much about it until you start to look and think "wait a minute....!"

    build thread

Wedge sectioned, chopped, fender radius, doors extended and radiused with the line going into the running boards... to start.

Shaggy, I do not believe the car can be shown to the public even in under construction.

Does anyone know the official rules.

that green two tone looks like someone is trying to copy troy. Look familiar?

Dang Dude, at least change the paint scheme so its not soooo obvious who's inspiration and idea's your really using. Will the real Troy please stand up?

I really liked the 56...the fade job and colors reminded me of the stuff I saw the first time I went to Autorama, and this car was incredible!

that chrysler that rad ride's built was probably one of the nicer rides up stairs...it was a neat piece...do not think it was in the 8 though.....

  22. Zman,
My sentments exactly. Very well said. Street Rodding and the commercializm that surrounds a high dollar build like these kills it for me.Ask most of the owners about their car and the only thing they can tell you is "this is the pen that wrote the check."

so everyone on here has built their own cars completely all by themselves? Did not buy a project done by someone else and change it, did not have anyone build them a car? Not all high end customers are clueless. The money that drives these high end cars keeps interest and money in the sport. Appreciation for craftsmanship goes along way.

    my two cents...

That Johnson car is not to my taste, those cars don't have the lines that speak hot rod to me. But the details are killer and I believe it will win.

    Evolution vs. De-evolution
    It's nobodies fault, it's not a conspiracy.....

BUT, so many of these cars are so CORPORATE looking. The bar has been raised to such a level that maybe the romanticism of the HOT ROD has been lost in translation.

Not to fear traditionally minded guys, our cars we hold so dear still exist. The spectrum is ever widening. We all have our lines of demarcation.

    Are we not men?

I am jealous as hell at the metal forming talent that went into this car. Remember that this is lost art that almost vanished for a few decades. Plantishing hammers and English wheels are as old school and traditional as hammer welding. Obviously the car is way off center for the HAMB, but the craftsmanship deserves respect.

  27. Respect the craftsmanship, appreciate the craftsmanship.
Cars are built to be functional or pieces of art? So should we respect and appreciate the craftsmanship as a piece of art or as an automobile?
Show me 1 Ridler car built in the last 10 years that can do even a 100 mile roadtrip???

I saw a few cars in the basement that I doubt would make a 1 mile round trip. If you have a hot rod and drive it, love it as it is. Why piss all over someone or his car who doesn't have the same build it/drive it passion as you? As for no soul, this argument has been beaten like a dead horse.
Seeing the '35 in person, it's clear they knocked the ball out of the park. The detail and craftsmanship were superb. My '36 looks like a field car compared to this '35. Do I care? No. Can I appreciate what it took to build this '35? Absolutely. Do I care if the '35 will make a 100 mile round trip? Nope. Why should I?
