Bought this just because, think I'll get it running and drive it just like it is. It's a 1930 Sayers and Scovill ambulance with a Continental straight 8, originally used by the Elkhart wisconsin police dept.
Wow, stained glass windows in a car. That's cool. I like the cabinetry too. That thing would be so cool restored to original.
That thing has to be worth some change. Make a nice family hauler. You'll always have the only one at a run. Cool.
That one and one more will make two of them that I've seen. Nice catch. That old Continental engine might not be too terribly hard to get parts for as they were used in industrial applications, etc.
Killer car, do just what you planned, get it running and cruise. The hearse guys will go nuts. And it probably is worth long money to the right guy. What's the chasis base, do you know? Back in those days they used Pontiacs, Buicks, Chevys, Cadillacs of course, and a few Fords as platforms. Might be a truck chassis with the Continental.
that thing would be so cool restored with a nice new slammed on the ground stance with a set of bent spokes
Thanks for the encouraging comments, the wife thinks I'm nuts. I just bought it, came from Georgia and Wisconsin before that. S&S made their own chassis and coachwork, bought everything else off the shelf. Don't know the wb but it has to be around 150. It weighs around 6k and is in amazingly good shape. Very thick metal in the body. I got the engine turning so next is a carb rebuild and a rebuilt fuel pump and I'll see if it will start. It was running when stored. One interesting thing is that the wheels were completely chromed at one time. I have all 6 disc wheels with original hubcaps.
That is so cool. Other than a new top and tires, and maybe some careful detailing, I think I would leave it completely the way it is.
that thing is sweet.. would make one hell of a family wagon.. course that cabinet would make an killer bar back there as well.. any pics of the engine? and some more of the interior?
Hey I found one just like it! I was wondering who made the chassis and the straight 8 engine. This one is in central IL and the guys Grandfather tore the back end off it and welded on a cornsheller way back in the day. Check out the stewart warner gauges on it.
Ok, well it's not 'just like it' if only the cab is the same and nice raising of the dead here. Sorry, but...
