yeah ..... it sux!!!!!!....i don't have confirmed details and don't want to post what i heard out of respect for him......i really liked that guy....a truly nice person....he will be missed R.I.P.
I got the news also earlier in the week...it is true and yea I agree lownslow out of respect for my old friend, I will let things be. He was a quiet, mysterious type, but he befriended me in '96 and he always treated me with respect. RIP
yeah i met him about the same time.....and this is on topic as he was a HUGE custom car freak with some bad *** rides .....maybe someone will have pics of his cars to post.....i am truly saddened......kustom55 thanks for agreeing with me on this...he would not want details made public. he was a quiet , private guy............
Bummer... I didn't know him very well but was surprised by the news and also that no one here said anything. Thanks for the confirmation....
The way i see it.. If there is really such a place as heaven...There will be plenty of cool guys to hang out with and talk shop....
did not know him, but his work always stood out in the magazines. Lost another old schooler.. RIP Neal0o
Maaske was a lot like an Indian Larry to the tattoo world...not quite from the oldest old school but a purveyor of the cl***ic fundamentals that made up the history and power of his trade...and put it in the face of a world that seemingly wanted nothing to do with it at that time. He was a hero to many of us involved in cars and tattooing, and will be missed. These things happen and make you realize how fleeting life is, and how much you take for granted the things that just seem like they will always be there.
That totally ****s. I met Erik back in 97 at some Rockabilly weekender. I was drunk the whole freakin time but I managed to come home with a tattoo on my hand by him. He was a great Tattooist and a hell of a nice guy. Sorry to see these things happen
He tatooed me and my wife at the rockabilly weekender in '95. A real car guy he was, this ****s. *******, it's been a bad year.
damn i hadn't heard about it at all. that ****s and as said he was an inspiration to many in many ways. there's not so many of the good guys left and the numbers seem to be getting fewer by the day. man that does truly ****. if someone could pm me what happened i'd really like to know. probably one of the nicest guys i've met in the tattoo community as far as just being a good soul. it's been years since i met him and have kicked myself in the *** since for not getting tattooed by him and ow i'm gonna kick myself a little harder...ken....
****! Are you kidding me? Had the chance of getting some work by him but ended up never happening. Damn, what a week! RIP
I you didn't have the opportunity to meet Eric Maaske, let alone have the privelege of getting tattooed by him, then you probably don't truly understand the gravity of this loss. Nothing was a trend to him: tattoo history, custom cars, music...they were all a true p***ion. Every time I had the pleasure of sitting in his chair, despite him giving me **** for wanting a traditional piece done non-traditionally, I knew I was getting a part of him permanently etched in my body that I would be forever proud of.
I also tattooed at the Denver rockabilly weekend (97) next to Eric, nice as hell and a damn good artist,it makes me sad to hear about this,he will be missed.
