Man, I thought this thread "died on the vine". Until this morning that is. Cool stuff. I'm glad you all thought it was appropriate here. Thanks
Nice link, I'm going to order one of those watches. I go through a watch every 6 months because I break them.
elvis had one too! haha i always liked this one. russian sputnik watch. http://cgi.ebay.com/Sputnik-very-Ra...ryZ31387QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem AND THESE ONES TOO. http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Worldma...ryZ31387QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-SICURA-...ryZ31387QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem THOSE SKELETON WATCHES ARE COOL TOO. I WOULD THINK A LOT OF HAMBERS WOULD LIKE THOSE SINCE THE MECHANICALS ARE EEXPOSED.
My GF of 16 years is a watchmaker, and also she collects 30's-50's art deco watches... a few of them happen to be men's, she lets me wear them when she knows I won't be around a car or tools... and she bought me a nice gold Hamilton and a couple of automatics for going out... I have only one nice modern quartz watch, a SS Skagen mesh band with a blue dial and it has her blessing because of the nice design... Don't ever show her your Movado, she'll laugh at you. When we go to the airport, I load up on those $10 Bijour Terner watches, the ones with the big dials are pretty sturdy because I destroy watches.
What got me into watches was a red faced fossil that was given to me as a gift in 2003 from my cousin and his wife.. i didnt know but everyone would ask me is that the new blah blah blah from fossil. I would say sure is and not think much about it..then I started waering it a lot. I had always seen sucessful business sales men with Rolex watches and since I was going into sales out of college my sights were set on that..the first big commsion check I am buying one.. fast forward out of college at my graduation party (which i thought i was getting $1000 and a new camera from my parents and was excited) I opend up a letter written by my mom that basically read...when you were 6 months old and your grandpa billy died he gave us money for you and said give it to him when he graduates college we put it away and added a little every month, then when you were 6 your grandpa Mike was dying and out of 17 grandkids you were his "little Greek" and left you some money as well. and said "give it to him when he really needs it" its and gave a little more than my other grandpa had. my dad lost him job in 91 for 3 years (contractor) and they had to spend almost every dime to save the house and feed us. my mom started working the last year of me in college and she hadnt worked all out life, she said it was to just help out. Fast forward to the end of the letter, the reason why she was working was to re pay some of the money they used and add a little more to get me this... a gift from both my dead grandparents that were not alive to see me graduate or get married or drive my first car. This is the watch I got..
I keep getting watches from my company. First an Omega Seamaster in 1998 followed by a Rolex in 2003. Then in 2008 they gave me a Movado SE ***anium. Perhaps they are trying to tell me to retire already. I wear the Omega and the Rollie. The Movado is still in the box though. Maybe I should sell it.
My company gave me a gift cert to cabellas for my 25th and i bought a gun .. I didnt even get to my 31st and the ****ers politely permanently laid me off.. .. I still have the ****ing gun and it shoots good.... **** em...Shoot em all Ha Ha.. See i really know how to derail a thread.. Dave
this how i roll, i loves me some eighties swatches... get 'em here... http://www.swatchandbeyond.com/index.php?ukey=home
Three of mine... British Army Jaeger Le-Coultre and Eterna from 1945 and my Dads Royal Air Force Omega from around 1940.
I've been collecting Hamilton Electrics for a few years now, to me they are the ultimate in watch design. Here are mine but some of the name tags are wrong (really need to get that sorted out.)
guess you did, didn't you! Was it worth the price of admission though? I am still waiting on my Damasko DC66, maybe sometime in the next 2 years I will get it.
im a watch" man and those watches on page 1 are seriously cool. im wanting one of h r gigers swatch watches. and they dont work!
Wow. I can't believe this **** gets posted on here. Other members harp on new members for not doing an intro, not posting about topics that are "traditional" to hot rodding, and so forth. I just can't believe that **** like this thread comes up all the time on this site. I really keep asking myself why I keep coming back here because of all the ignorance and immaturity. Don't get me wrong, there are some members on here that know what they're doing and can prove it. All the others are just a bunch of wannabees that read through a car magazine and then think they have talent. What a buch of BS. Later.
Same place as I buy my gold watches.Does my desire to spend MY hardearned on stuff I like have a negative impact on your lives? If you don't like it,nobody is forcing you at gunpoint to read it.
