I have a friend who is instaling a 289 Ford in a 52 Ford and the oil filter hits the frame. A while back a post was made with P/N for very short filters for this engine. He went to all 3 of the chain auto parts and he got the old we cant help you with out proper model etc etc bs bs. Thank You for any help as I dont want him to cut a hole in the cross member. Thanks again . Bobby

Look up a '65-'66 Sunbeam Tiger.
If anything came stock with a short filter that one would.

I think 84ish Mustang will too. I bought one for my 302, it was pretty short. FWIW, 96 Ranger 4cly uses the same filter as 289-302's, only longer.

This might be abit more expensive but how about a remote oil filter kit?

You could mount it somewhere so when you change the oil it doesnt drain all over the frame.

Fram PH43A or Pennzoil PZ-7 are the short filters for Ford V8. You can cross reference from those, for different brands. Or since the parts store guys won't know what a cross reference is. Have them look up 60s or 70s Mopar V8s. Some of them came with this short filter, sorry I don't know which Mopars specifically.

I remember seeing a 90 Deg. adapter for the Ford Oil Filter. Would that help the interference Problem?

Some ford trucks with 300 sixes had the 90 degree adapter or you can buy it OTC at your dealer. Try the 94 mustang 5.0 for the short filter also.

Both of these filters have an anti drainback valve, and have a by-p*** valve set between 8-11 psi

The Motorcraft FL-1 is stock. The FL-300 is the short version used on Tempos. Got a 5.0 in a '51 Ford, FL300 fits fine. The FL-400 also matches. Same length but smaller around than the FL-1.
