I bought a brake master cylinder/booster combo at the swap meet last month. I cant get the bracket to fit right. Its the type that mounts under the floor. I bought it from northern kentucky street rods. I called them and they said it should fit. I cant get it to sit flush on the frame without the back end hitting the cross member. Anyone tell me what i need to do to fix this? I need a picture.
pics would be nice. Your going to have to cut/move/add something, if it does not fit. Cutting/moving whats wrong is not the same as whats in the way
Was it a "universal fit"...??? If so, you'll have to change the whole frame to get it to fit and work properly...!!! I'm no help... R-
The bracket isnt universal either. I dont think im supposed to cut the crossmember. I might cut the bracket and extend it out alittle.
? looking at the picture I see a hole in the bracket where the bolt is supposed to go but I don't se a hole in the ch***is to go with it. this bolts up to the stock master cylinder holes first thing I'd do is line up all the holes. what am I missing here?
The holes do line up. You just cant see them in the pictures. Its sitting lined up right now. The back where the booster mounts is laying on the cross member in the picture. Thats the problem.
I have always had to modify something when it has to do with a universal kit keep that in mind. My 2 cents
Thats what ive decided to do. Im going to cut the bracket at the mount just before the plate the booster mounts to and extend it a few inches to clear crossmember. It would of been easier to mount it to the firewall i guess. I just want a nice clean engine bay. Im even relocating the battery to trunk eventually.
It looks to me like 10 minutes with a grinder on the flat flange of the original crossmember would fix the problem without over complicating it and keeping the bracket in returnable condition in case there is more to it than that. I may be missing something but it appears that the problem is that the booster wont bolt up flat to the mount due to the crossmember flange. I'd grind the flange to get the clearance needed.
before you change the flange or crossmember, look to be sure you will be able to insert and tighten the booster bolts.
I am not an expert on these but it looks like an RB's mount. It is meant to attach to the original master cylinder mount that connects to the frame rail and crossmember. The booster plate should be behind the crossmember. Bad news is it hangs down real low, so they don't tend to have a really long lifespan.
The manual trans and automatic cross members are different and in different locations. Maybe you got the wrong one?
I love hot rodders. We buy "engineered" parts, and when, (for whatever reason), they don't work we don't return them; we modify them to our needs. What other industry can rely on sales like that?
