  6. Sheriff must have been scratching his head with this one.( crashed citizen 1973) Described as a 1973 VW beetle. Where did the engine go ? Where did all the body panels go ? ( it,s a Citroen )

Those old steering wheels and lack of seat-belt awareness led to a lot of bodily harm!

LOL, i remember looking at an late 50's Imperial at a swap meet and my buddy looked at the dash and said "Holy ****, imagine being skewered by all those knobs!" Every knob on the dash came to a sharp point. You'd be hamburger if you hit them.

Some of those pics really make you think... Especially the '35/36 Fords, and 66/67 chevelle convertible pic, both of which I have. That '66 convert is ****ed. It's not marked "fatal" but it HAD to be.

    Thanks for the link.

Yeah, lots of those pics sure look fatal when you see the angles & relationships of the steering column & seat.

hinge & latch technology sure has come a long ways huh? 80% of those cars have thrown a door clean off.

  22. I came from a small Indiana town. You forget how everyone came out for the car wrecks. Almost like entertainment. Mike

Early on, some States and Provinces of Canada, required the car be registered in their jurisdiction. It wasn't too rare to see cars, especially near border towns, displaying two different plates. I'm not sure how long that went on, but I wouldn't be suprised if it went into the 30's.

The pic of the fatal crash in 1974 is weird, the old preist in attendance instead of an ambulance ,but it pales into significance compared with the shot in the second gallery of the guy laying on the ground next to his wrecked dodge and everyone standing around ...

    Pretty cool . . .

  30. I had to stare at this for awhile. It's '49 Merc 4dr.

I'm sure this sight struck fear in to the hearts of criminals across the county:
