Anybody out there from Penn. know if it is possible to do a ***le search? I bought a 41 Chevy with an open ,signed Penn. ***le issued in 1980. I thought it would be interesting to trace it back to the origional owner if possible. Thanks.

I don't know if you can track it to the original owner but you should be able to track it to the original dealer. My 55 had been off the road since 85 til 06. I used the serial number through a google search and had to hunt a little but found out it was built in Nov. of 55 in Kansas City and sent to a small town in Ok to a chevy dealer. good luck tring to get any local DMV to help

With privacy laws and such, I don't think that PennDOT is going to give out names and addresses.
Local notaries are tied in to the PennDOT system. I'd think that if you were friendly with someone at the notary's office next time you go in for some paperwork they might be more helpful. They're not as corporate about things, generally.

<edit> Doh- I just noticed that you have a Texas address. That pretty much throws my 'local notary' advice out the window. Sorry.

I know there was a form that PennDot would let you file for this stuff, but i can't find it on their website-I'll try to find it in my home files tonight. You might want to PM me to remind meif you don't hear in 48 hrs.:)

With the ways things are today I don't think you can find out who owned anything anymore . If someone can find something from someone they will steal there name and everything . Things aren't like they used to be ! If you are going to try and find something in Pa. , you better be in no hurry ! They are slow as **** here !

If there is a name on it, you might be able to do a search in that city, and go from there...

Thanks all. Kinda sounds like more trouble than it is worth. I did find a receipt in the glovebox from a place called Yordy's American Service in Lebanon, PA. Says "The best gas in town" on the top of the receipt. So, I ***ume the guy's name on the receipt was a former owner. He got an inspection and wheel cylinder for $34.05.

I found it!. The form I have is DL-135(4-05) "Request for Vehicle Information". It is/ was $5 for each record requested and a number to call to see how many records were available to know how much money to send in. I have it listed as 1-800-932-4600 In State and 1-717-391-6190 Out of State 7AM to 9 PM.

I don't know if any of this is still good in 2009. Good luck.

Yes Pendot has trouble with anything past 10 years old. I think thats cause they employ them.

Make friends with a State Trooper( I know its against the rules). They have someone who does this for you at certain barracks. A tropper should be able to point you in the right direction.
