Over lunch I was talking with my dear wife about safety stuff for the digger. I was pondering if I should get an SA2000 which is good through 2012 or spend the extra $$$ and get an SA2005 which would be good through 2017. Her first response was probably the SA2000 because, "Don't you replace helmets after an accident?". Oh brother... I then gave her some grief about keeping my insurance paid up and all that. ;-)

I've tried to reasure her as I've been building the digger that it'll actually be safer than the coupe and I get the response, "so the coupe's not safe?". I can't win. She understands my addiction and is letting me build but still ... I'm starting to feel like a hot rod Rodney Dangerfield.

How does your significant other feel about your hot rodding?

Kerry, just be careful to not dig the hole any deeper. Sounds like she is actually a smart one (and that is a good thing). So, just good to be careful and edit the info before it comes out of your mouth. :)

Pretty blessed, my wife knows I need "Me time" in the garage. Occasionally, she is the one encouraging me to go unwind for a while. She also loves cruising and realizes hot rods are a constant work in progress.

You are asking how my wife feels about hot rods in relation to the potential danger involved? I think she knows it is a p***ion of mine and that safety is all relative.

From what I have seen you are far from a reckless idiot. And for future reference - if she asks - the correct way to re***ure her would be to tell her that you are building the digger to be safer than your late model drivers.

My wife and I dated in a hot rod 33 years ago. I still have the same wife and recently bought another car like the one we dated in. Nice to go for a ride in a car that she said "you should buy this one" My other cars are something she puts up with. This one she loves. PS. I own a 28 Model A sedan, 30 Model A modified (under construction) and a 68 RS/SS 396 4 speed Camaro.......yes it is a hot rod.

Um yeah. I don't know that my poor Dear will EVER be willing to take a ride in the coupe. I can be pretty persuading though...

I know there's concern with what I do. Cars, motorbikes, snowboarding, and skateboarding. You wouldn't be the person you are if you didn't pursue what drives you.

Yet she is worried about me running my mere 12 teen car at the dragstrip ? ? ? I pray to God everytime she takes off in Gia she dont get T-Boned

  17. Dude that's cold !! Does she not have confidence in your driving ?? Or does she know something that you don't ??? My wife would give me safety equipment for Christmas when I was racing and I always wondered why !! Last but not least check your insurance policies !! >>>>.

I do need to add the Cheryl is very supportive, even sending me out when I "need" shop time. It's just funny what she says before she thinks it through from my standpoint. It was then fun to hear her come up with other arguments why the cheaper helmet was a better choice. :)

Yep Buzzard, just about every day. She's the light of my life and I lover more than when we got married nearly 21 years ago.

Kevin, I'm just an idiot. I've got witnesses who will testify to it!

My wife helps me build my cars and my kids too.:D Her mother asked " why she put up with my cars " my wife responce was " If his heads under the hood of a car its not up the skirt of another woman " :eek:I build some crazy stuff but she don't mind she supports me and the hobbie. Push I make mad money with them so she likes that as well. But when we talk about another car or parts. I just spin it in a way that works for me at the time and watch what I say .

Isn't the SA2005 a better helmet? Safer for your melon? I'd use that angle. Your just trying to be safe and be around longer for her to tell you what you should do.

My wife is 100% supportive. She's trying to get me to spend some money on the coupe right now. :)

Her dad is a car guy who still owns the '67 Camaro RS that he bought in the very early 70s.

    I <3 my wife...

I know the no respect issue.. we custom paint and fabricate cars, motorcycles and whatever, so we go out to eat Friday night and come out of the rest. and some bozo has backed into the truck pulling the front bumper straight out and a small dent in the fender the size of a quarter and a busted lens. Fortunatly he left a note "Sorry I rubed you bumper" and number. that was at least a good laugh, number is good the guy is a stand up guy gives his insurance and contact info, get off the phone and my Darling bride looks straight at me and says "So where do we need to take it to be fixed". I just replied how abought our shop, and then I get you can fix that, I reply how many customs do we have in the shop right now isn'T it about 4 frame offs,

All I get is Oh yea, Gotta love her any way she puts up with me, and is a good cook.
So I guesse I need a how to on installing a bumber..

I've never been lucky enough to have a "supportive" wife when it came to building cars or bikes. Too much time and money was all I would ever hear. Today, there is a new project in the garage and two ex-wives to show for it.

  28. my wife encourages me. She helps work on the car. Can't get much better then that.
