While I've got my brain grinding away today on things I want to do to my car I figure I'll pick the brain of you fine folks out here in hotrod land. I've got a 1953 Mercury Monterey. Yeah it's a 4 door but I may be one of the only people in the world who likes the look more than the 2 doors. She's a beautiful dark cherry purple with air shocks in the back for a nice low look. I'm running the 255 flathead engine with the stock Mercury crank, I've got two Stromberg 97's up top on a vintage Fenton 2x2 intake. Running a Mallory Dual Point Distributor and pretty soon gonna throw on some of those gorgeous Edelbrock finned heads. Next time I get a chance to get under it I'm gonna bolt up the headers I got from Red's to get rid of the TERRIBLE stock exhaust setup she used to have. So I guess here's my question. If she were yours what would you do next? I'm not so keen on boring the block, I want to stay with fifties era modifications and I am not so sure about switching to a 12 volt system. Thanks in advance.
I think you've got the right idea so far. I would DEFINITLEY do the headers ASAP. Otherwise it sounds like you've got a great set-up.
How about a couple new thermostats? Just kidding, +1 for a hotter cam and adjustable lifters. Perfect time to do it if you're gonna have the heads off anyhow.
Ah forgot to mention one of the two owners before me already put adjustable lifters in there. What would you boys recommend for a good cam? I know Isky makes some good stuff but I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to cam info.
Ha. I'd give my eye teeth for some Navarro heads. Or some Sharp's. But Sharp only makes them for the earlier blocks and Navarro's are SPENDY.
@55century, Thanks doll! I sure do appreciate that. My those are some familiar looking cars you have there.
