I have a 37 with old Gibbons torsion bar suspension, does any one still use these, should I be looking at an ugrade to mustang II.
I run the torsion bar suspension on a 37 also. I like the height adjustability but am not crazy about the turning radius. Mine runs down the road great, I have thought about changing to a diferent rack to try to tighten up the steering just have'nt done it yet. All the racks that I have thought about have a wider pivot point than the A frames which may alter the geometry. Another thing if I go to a different rack It may steer harder. I don't think I would go to the trouble to change to a mustang. Good luck on what you decide to do. BobCat.
I use the rack recomended by Gibbon which is the chrysler K car ( can't remember the year) What is needed would be a rack that is about one to two inches longer to tighten the radius. I hav'nt located one that will work. BobCat
The pivot point on the rack should be the same as the pivot point on the lower control arm to prevent bump steer.
From what I understand about the Gibbons installation of the Chrysler front suspension is the lack of new parts to rebuild it. If you can't get replacement parts it would be almost useless if anything wore out. Frank
Yes Frank that is a HUGE point............the nail in the coffin is what Dwight Bond said to me a few years back, he WAS Gibbons for those that do not know. We were trying to help out a local NSRA guy.....poor misguided souls....he bought this "killer" product at the Nats..... Anyway, we were working on this thing that never worked, I got ahold of Dwight down in Nebraska. I am pretty sure this more of an exact quote and not a paraphrase........."you know, we NEVER could get those things to work!" From the manufacturers mouth. I rest my case your honor.
