I have a 49 Ford truck that someone has installed a small block chevy motor and automatic ******. The number on the block is 3970010. It has center bolt valve covers. When i ran the serial number it shows it is either a 302, 327 or 350. How can i tell which motor it is? Also on the ****** the serial number is 1827822. It has 7 shift positions. I tried to hook up a Mr Gasket shifter handle and it just doesnt want to fit. The numbers show it is an oldsmobile ******. there is no adapter plate from the ****** to the motor. can anyone help me identify what is going on under my hood? thanks
The transmission might be a 200-4R or a 700R4. The 200 has a long pan. If it's an Olds ******, the bellhousing bolt holes will hit on 4 of the available 6 holes if behind a Chevy block. The engine block should have a 4" bore. Displacement will be determined by stroke.
It has to be an overdrive. It could be a 700 or a 2004r. The 700 has a rectangular pan with 16 bolts. The 200 will have a long pan that is smaller at back.
More than likely you have a 2 bolt main 350 sbc and like the rest of them said its probably a 700r4 or a 200 4r transmission.
Look at the pad in front of the p*** head. Post the numbers.... something like F1028CTX then some part of a s/n
