Just remember those people at the DMV are paper pushers. The actually want to register your car. Make up a good story go down there with your stuff and lie and purger yourself. How many people do you know that are in jail for trying to register a legal car. The last vehicle I registered could never p*** smog. I filled out a from saying I bought it from my sister for $200. ( what are they going to do check my genology) The only thing the woman behind the counter said was if I had said my sister gave it to me I would have saved $70.
I just sold a boat. The guy called me about signing something. Said the clerk told him that he would turn his back if the seller could sign it right there.
The bottom line is they want to register it. As long is it's legally yours just go do it.

Can you elaborate on this without incriminating yourself or anyone? Or is it really as simple as you stated?

I am just continually astounded, and entertained, by the number of threads started by hotrodders who have worked on their cars for years, and then realize they need a ***le,plates and a registration. I mean, you hear stories of guys building boats in their ba*****t that end up too wide to get out the door, but really! Call me silly, but wouldn't it make sense to read the rules first and make sure you could actually legally drive the car someday befoe you invested all that time and money? Guess I just don;'t understand. Good luck, though.

lol @ MAC 55. I dont know how Cali works, but in Mi., the ladys at the Secretary of State dont give a chit how you do it, just hurry up. I would suggest being honest and they will let you know what needs to be done. If that doesnt work, go to another DMV,and lie your *** off!

If the car has a california ***le, I *think* they don't have to verify the VIN?

Since my car had an out of state ***le, they had to actually read the vin number off the tag.
Then when I filed as having no ***le, they also had to see the VIN tag.

    Congrats to the OP!

EDIT: for anybody else reading this, avoid the DMV like the plague, only go through AAA or a registration service, email me for more info(no i dont' own a business)

  13. For all of the silly nonsense that goes on in California with the Governator, taxes, tree huggers and same *** marriages, the DMV is easy if you know what to do. If the car is out of the system, you're in luck. Go to the counter, smile and tell the clerk/drone that you've had the car for years, sitting in your yard. It was registered in your name. You took off the plates and put them in an envelope with all of the paperwork so they wouldn't get lost. Now you can't find the envelope. They will want to see the VIN. You will fill out a few forms and pay the fees. Last time I did it I was in and out in an hour with plates and a temporary registration in my hand. The DMV really want's your money, you just have to tell them what they want to hear.
    BTW, I've been in a same *** relationship for 39 years.......Same wife, same ***
