my buddy has a 54 ford. and some how he keeps getting gas in the oil. in idea on why? the motor is a 292 y-block.
i'm not familiar with Y-blocks , this may not be possible on one.....but maybe it's a bad fuel pimp leaking into the crankcase?
x3, check the fuel pump. That's about the only place the oil and fuel can mix, barring a m***ive carb flooding issue. And, these always get worse, sometimes quickly, and can ruin the lower end if driven too far or fast with the oil diluted.
it has an electric pump. and an edelbrock carb. i know the carb is to big. but it also did it with a holley on it.
what pressure is the electric pump putting out? maybe it's too much and pushing fuel past the needle/seat. you may need a fuel pressure reulator
got a friend who has a y block that is getting re-ringed right now. i don't know why but he had a cylinder with a "stuck" ring. could be the same thing going on with your friends car too. run a compression test on it and watch for any drops cylinder to cylinder.

looks like the allan head adjusts fuel pressure while the jam nut on the outside keeps it set. you may want to hook a gauge up after it to verify that it is working. with spec from 4 to 9 psi i would not think that would be enough to matter unles there were serious carb issues.
seems to be the car ran like **** with the holley i'm sure it was to big also. today with some tinkering it seemed to run quite a bit better. he's gonna change the oil and filter today. the last time he did not change the filter. so i think that is the issue today. i'll update you guys soon.
Float settings and jetting is very important with Holley's. It can run rich enough to wash the cylinder walls after shutting off while there is no ignition to burn the fuel. ALSO.... is he one of those guys that rev's the engine and then shuts it off? That is the worst thing anyone can do.... it fills the chambers with fuel, washes the walls and settles in the oil pan. I always shut the car off in gear from an idle if it is an automatic and then put it in park. A manual ****** is different of course, but just shut it down, don't rev it.... Just a thought....
Be real careful when draining oil with gas. friend had same type of problem and turned out to be carb float problem. So much gas was in oil pan that it flowed out real fast when drained and hit drop light under car. Had fire, lots of damage. He was OK because friend pulled him out from under car.
Has the carb caught on fire?...I had the same problem and i found out it was my power valve was bad.I replaced it and no more fuel in oil
