We have a vintage series at Corbin which is a real blast. Take a look at the cars we had last year in the Vintage section of www.corbinspeedway.com. Click on "Teams." I left last year's on there until we get rolling this year, but most of the same cars will be back, plus some more.
i love the vintage class john,i'll have to check that out when i come to l'ville this year. is corbin closer to l'ville or bowling green,i do 2 shows in bowling green, this year. you know b.j. parker? he's starting a new circiut down here . run ala/ga. late model shows
We go up to Bowling Green each year for the Hot Rod Reunion. That is a tight looking little track, they use it for displays during the reunion. Here's a Leon "Slick" Sells page for slick77fan, this is also posted on the .4m. This is a repeat I think.
one more slick: I must appogize for my scanner, I hope everyone understands that these photos aren't out of focus, I just don't have a very good scanner.
they look good to me. we'll have to look each other up in b.g. i go every year, and to the good guys event in oct. most of the time i'm in my old 59 el camino.uesd to have huntsville speedway on the side. don't work there any more so no free advertiseing for him. you know they also run figure 8 on that little track also. kinda wish the would move the vendors one year and run the fig 8.
I shot these at Riverside California, Winston 500, in November 1983. I'm not sure about the names of the drivers, in fact I don't have names for several of them. If you know who any of these unmarked photo's are, by all means , please chime in. ( I know who # 43 is ) I'll go thru the negs this week and see what else I may have. Thanks in advance, Skyskier
A few dirt: The late Dub Meeler (74) at Dixie Speedway: The #39 is Charles Hughes and the #1 is Leon Brindle. (Thanks JLS65 for naming Leon on the .4m site) Also at Dixie and/or Rome Rodney Combs and ???--------Larry Moore and Fuzzy Orange Herman Goddard--------------Stan Massey
Asphalt for the day: Reached into the box and pulled out the #90s section and chose these. Don't have any names to go with these. This is dirt tracker Johnny Thomas at GA International in LC Smiths asphalt car.
Looking at the print the name on the top doesn't look like Harrington. I'll try to find another photo of the car.
How about Oi' Red Farmer at no longer active Rocket Speedway in Dothan, AL. The #73 is Dave Mader. I'm not sure if this is a feature, heat or helmet dash win for Red. As you can see Rocket had no inside guardrail. Red earlier in the day:
This is probable some of the last dirt I shot as I think I went to asphalt the next year. I'm not real wild about the way these cars look although they aren't completly slab sided - flat topped like the later cars. Mike Duvall---------Rodney Combs #55 ??, #99 Donnie Moran (sp)------#72????
Falcon, I'll have to do a little research for the #55. The #72 is 'Racin' John Mason. He's still racing today I believe. I was at this show. Combs had a great looking car.
L.D., Won the pole IRP in 1984 best the record set by Phil Parsons in 1982....I worked on L.D.'s crew at the time......
Falcon Red, I think the black 55 is sprint car racer Bobby Allen. He raced the NDRA stuff some in the early '80's. Maybe not??? Kevin Ooltewah Speed Shop
Mentioning Red Farmer--is he still living? Getting some age on him if he is. Met him once years ago when I was a kid, really nice guy.
still LIVING??? HELL HE'S STILL RACING . races at talladega short track, just about every sat night. he and tony stewart are close friends.tony bought him a late model bout a year ago. he runs the show that tony puts on for all the cup guys at eldora. great guy
