I'm pulling the power steering rack on the Sled. In order to get the
pitman arm puller over the tie-rod end to remove it from the knuckle,
I find I have to remove one bolt from the brake caliper and swing it
out of the way to move the brake disk. P***enger side goes without
    incident.

    I move to the driver's side and...well...

There ARE no bolts holding the caliper on. (!)

Glad I found out _this_ way!

I'm pretty sure the caliper was pretty well restrained between the
caliper frame and wheel, but still.

Thats scary! Nothing will soil your short faster than finding you have no brake, when you are driving down the road at high speed.

Mmmm... a caliper generally can't go far but not a good feeling just the same. Did you install it? If not you have a bit of time ahead of you checking everything else on your car, I would suggest.

This sounds like a failure of the ***embler, not the part. No offense to the ***embler.:D

upgrades can work fine..if they are attached properly..I would think that some one forgot to put them in..or didnt tighten them down to specs..the probelm isnt with the up-grade..its installation error

Holy **** thats a shock and a blessing you found it before it was too late.I had a rack and pinion that I was driving in my custom broke internally,I think a tooth broke when I hit a piece of steel on I 25.It bent the rim (replaced the rim)but I kept driving it thinking that was all the damage.I holy **** ,a month later when doing a routeen check and that side wiggled in and out a couple inches.I immediately replaced it. It never hurts to just go under and give it a check everything no matter how reliable you think your ride is.

I've got nobody to blame but myself on this one, I'm afraid. I upgraded the original calipers to C5 Corvette ones awhile back and must have overlooked the lock***e on that side...but to not have torqued them down? That's suicidally sloppy.

Figures though. I did it at the time I was dialing in a 383 and Race 700r4 and it seemed like every little project I was doing took twice to get it right and I was just happy the brake mods went without incident. I guess they wanted their second going over too.
