I had my 40 tudor body fall off stands and landed on my hand back in 1976,my 4 year old son was the only other one @ home. I had to pull it out which cost me 47 stiches. I was a dealership service manager for years and have seen many foolish mistakes while working on cars, fan belts will cut off fingers, drop cords when dropped will start fires, old brake shoes and gaskets are made of asbestos, and long hair will tangle in turning machinery!!!!!!! SAFTY FIRST- LAST- ALWAYS...............

I was in the automotive business for 38yrs; went to 11 funerals....they were ALL 'freak' accidents ....and every one was "doing what they loved!!"....don't take safety lightly...always; always do everything possible to be safe; especially under a car. One rule I follow...I won't jack up a car unless someone else is present; no matter what....4 eyes are better that 2 !!!!

My dad had an old Bell phone service truck that was used for pulling well mottors for repair. On the glove box door was a decal that read, "No task is so urgent, nor any job too important, to not perfom your work safely". Words I have lived by since youth, get it, LIVED by.

Guilty. I was trying to figure out some cooling issues with a 68 Fairlane wagon. I released pressure (had one of those pressure release style caps) and thought i was good. Squeezed both the upper and lower hoses and there was no pressure that i could feel. I turned and pulled the cap and VVVOPOOOMMMMMM!!! Anti freeze volcano. I'd done this exact same procedure 100's of times before on cars, still don't know wtf happened. Now i wait patiently for the car to cool 1st, and i'm not a very patient guy. :D

I lost a friend to an accident like this too, many years ago. He was working under his car by himself.....with the car supported by cinder blocks stacked high. It seems that he was trying to break a bolt loose which shook the car and it fell on him. Several minutes p***ed before somebody in the house came out to check on him. He was in a coma for weeks, then p***ed away.

Please learn from these peoples mistakes and be extremely careful working under cars.

I know it's not even close to being killed but I know accidents can happen in a split second, I got a tooth knocked out by a hood hinge and spring but it could have been a lot worse. I'm still probably one of the worst safety slackers out there, my hands are always beat up from not wearing gloves, can't count the times I've had stuff in my eye because my gl***es were across the garage and I don't even own a fire extinguisher. Thanks for a reality check.
