hey whats up guys... Im movin to So Cal here in a few weeks to be back with my girlfriend who lives out that way... was wondering if you guys know much about the San Diego area.... Im movin out to her place in Ocean Beach / La Poma area.... I will be back working with Carpenters Union but any additiional construction or additional jobs would be greatly appreciated... leads are leads ...

what Im lookin for is the following:
    1) cool people to kick it with and drink a beer
    2) a GOOD barbershop where I dont have to describe or teach them how to do a pomp haircut (Ive had to teach all of my hair stylists out here in bossier city, la)
    3) wheres the swap meets and hang out spots for people out there....

any additional information would be bad ass and greatly appreciated

Cruise nights starting soon in Escondido (25 mi north), La Mesa (8 mi east) and El Cajon (12 miles east). BTW El Cajon is pronounced El Ka hone so you don't sound dumb when you ask somebody about it.

  12. El Cajon, or El cajohn to those of us who do not ablo espanish, means "the box"
Pomona Swap meet is always a good place to go, show up early, real early.
The Twilight Cruise at the NHRA Museum in Pomona at the fairplex starts again next month. First Wed. of the month. Usually a nice little turnout. www.museum.nhra.com

Pick up a Reader (they are free, don't let the locals charge ya!:D)
to get an idea of the local scene. The Bean Bandits are local, Over The Hill Gang, Prowlers, others too.

The car muesum in Balboa park is cool, there is a classic and exotic showroom in downtown, and the drive up the coast during summer must be done. Ferrari/Lambo dealer in La Jolla (la hoy-ya), lots of car cruises as mentioned, Kustom Kulture out in Santee.
Plenty of dive bars along the waterfront and along University Ave and El Cajon Blvd in ESD, but if you are in OB, you can crawl to a few without driving east of I-5. Barona for vintage drags.
Crower is in Chula Vista, Schnider is just north of Old Town, Lenco is out 94 before Lemon Grove, Lots of other fab and racing shops. There is a hot bed up along the 76 between O'side and Escondido, and out in east county. Try a trip out to Simpson's Nursery before it gets too hot.
For a musical bent, try the Adams Avenue Roots & Folk Festival. If it ever gets less loco down south of the border, you can run down to TJ and Rosarito Beach.

I'll be down at the Dublin Mob gig.

Kustom Kulture is not in Santee anymore. They knocked down the building, it's a grocery store now. KK is doing web and mail order from a wherehouse in La Mesa last I time I talked to them.

Every Thursday evening a bunch of guys get together at this Fosters.

Here in hollywood you can meet a lot of kool kats around santa monica and highland, and they for sure can talk hairstyles and 'car-date' stories all night long!

It's a great place to hang out if you don't have work in construction, too!

and for the love of Pete there are literally hundreds of unemployed 'construction laborers' outside of the home depot near me...the worst economy/housing starts/recession/home value decline/in decades and 50% school dropout rate

man you better consider a solid plan B for employment!!! Contractors will stab each other for work and you might even see the boss laying tile these days, to say construction is slow is a bit of an understantement

Ill work just about any job .... hell the way that I was raised was YOU MAKE WORK WHAT IT IS.... either you can have a blast while doing it or you can hate getting up every morning and going to that dead end job... hell you make it what it is.... I may go back and finish my degree in social work within college have maybe like a year left .... I am keeping alot of options open at the moment.... besides I have already been in the talks with Hardware stores out that way./......

Dude, that's just flat out MEAN.

Too bad Benito's is gone--a "rolled taco" is the perfect snack down on that part of Santa Monica.

By the way, I work three blocks from there . . .

I don't know if I'd be able to find you just by listening for a guy with an accent. You better post a couple of pictures of your girlfriend.

LOL you knew the name of that place?!? I can't believe it closed! Luckily that donut shop on the corner is open for buisness 24/7!! And so are the customers!!! :D

Actually, I live close to there, sunset/fairfax.

Hmm within 3 blocks of that place, you could work in a bunch of different industries, some of them even legal!!!;)
