Photoshop Phun....... Dad's '56 Olds is getting new paint

As some know my Dad has a '56 Olds. The drivetrain and suspension is complete. This winter it's getting new paint and interior. Dad is thinking that he'd like it a two tone blue but different blues then it is right now.

Anyone have any ideas of a couple of shades that would look GREAT together? Lighter in the front, which will be carried into the engine compartment. Darker in the back.

He's also thinking about solid black. I've mentioned to him silver in the front and blue in the back as another choice.

Anyone wanna give it a shot?

 

I do not have photoshop, but if he decides to change the colors, which I do not think needs to be done, what about silver in the front, and black in the back... just an idea. -Joe

I would consider a regal candy blue rear w/ silver up front. Definately HoK for the job.

I wouldn't change the color at all but it's not my car.Unless you're going to change the interior color also,you're pretty much confined to various shades of blue and/or silver.If you're changing the interior,I would try a gold/bronze rear color with an ivory front color.

How about a darker blue, like a royal but not bright, and a medium blue front. Dad is very conservative. I don't think he'd ever do a "bright" color.

Ray, the interior will be redone. The colors will depend on the exterior. Dad wants a completly fresh looking car for spring, Mom is not happy. She likes things just the way they are.

Dad is still looking for a "perfect" hood. His is completly rotted in the front. Any leads are greatly appreciated.

Kinda, but both those clors have too much purple in them. Got a couple of shades of blue to choice from??

now all I did here was raise the saturation and lower the brightness of the orignal color.

 

here is my version:

 

Silver in back, Orange up front accentuate the fact that it's a 98.

 

Make Mom happy with Martha Stewart (now with a Thurston Howell III accent) "Celery" and "Olive"

 

I like the creamsickle and gold/bronze versions...

 

I wouldn't change the colors .........and for the record, it's an 88. The 98's had an ugly side-trim configuration that made the body look thicker, even tho the 98 was longer. I know, I had a '56 Olds 98 ragtop in high school. All the cool guys in High school had 88's...I was a loser.

hmm i would recommend him thinking long and hard before painting it solid black.just a suggestion.i never liked solid black hardtop 56 olds.for some reason its harder to pull off on the 56 model.esspecially with the super 88 trim.maybe its just me.i think the post models look alittle better in solid black,but still just something about it i dont like.maybe its the super trim.there is no shape to it like the 88s to stand out on its own.it works better with a 2-tone it seems.just my opinion.

I would go gold/bronze.

 

Denise, first off-your dad's car is delicious just the way it is! However, if he is insistant on changing it, I like the creamsickle look. And that's because my friend Jack has a '54 88 hardtop that is exactly the same color combo. He painted the car several years ago and the reception was phenominal. It still looks great. But, it's already been done. But-I still love it!!!
Just in case you hadn't considered it as yet, Murray Pfaff is right around the corner (so to speak) from you and your dad and I'm certain he could, given your dad's preferences, come up with several outstanding paint combos. Just a thought. Incidentally, in case I forgot to tell you already-I LOVE YOUR DAD'S CAR JUST THE WAY IT IS.

 

Murray is a good bud of the familys. We see him about once a week in the summer cruzn around. Him and dad have talked about color alot lately. It sure is a small world. How do you know him? He has intro'ed on here this summer. His HAMB screen name is "Detroit Torch". It certainly suits him.

Dad is insistant on a change and I believe he has his mind set on a couple of shades of blue. Picking the right blues will be the tough part and thats why he'd like to see some photoshoped suggestions. I've mentioned before how great the folks on the HAMB are at the photoshop program so he asked me to see if anyone could do up a few different ones for him.

He's coming over to my place tonight to meet BenD and hang out so I'll be showing him this thread then. Thanks to all that posted suggestions. If you have any others, please don't be shy about sharing.
