I just got a quote for $161.00 to rebuild my 2bl. Does that seem fair?

Anytime I ever replaced my 2bl for another reman. from kragen, it was about 200 plus the cost of gaskets to fix the leaks...

What kind of 2 barrel, how old and is that the price to put a 'kit' in it or to recondition it?

I was quoted 120-140 to rebuild my 1bl so I would think that is about right

  7. Even wholesale shop to shop I always got $100 plus kit cost which is right about there. four barrels were more profitable!. I used to do about 2 per week .
Cleaner is extremely expensive, especailly decent stuff. Smelling that chemical for a couple of hours has to be worth something. Takes about a coulple of hours above the cleaning time. So $100 for labour and cleaning and 30 to 50 for a kit, a bit in taxes. Ceertainly in the ball park.

Why not DIY? Not knowing what you have there, most 2bbls are pretty basic and you get a lot of satisfaction out of learning something. If you have a complete carb, you should only need a kit and a can of carb spray.

  10. I'm doing a kit on my 1 barrel Rochester BC right now. My first attempt at a carb rebuild. I have it all dis***embled right now. Seems pretty straightforward so far. Hope I get it back together right.

Old car 2bbls are about 3 screws more complicated than a pushmower carburetor.

I'd say if the rebuild is a mechanic-rebuild, just do it yourself. But if it's a pro carb rebuilder with throttle shaft bushings and chemical-recoloring, different story.

    good luck

My fingers ar as big around as tentpegs, I can do my own carbs if I have to but would send them out for that price.

I'm in the auto repair business and I recently called our carb shop for some prices. I was kind of surprised to get prices really similar to those for "our cost". I think that would be an average price for a professional rebuild and re-bush.

It takes me a couple of hours to do one myself. Figure the cost of materials and paying hourly rates, you get a number like that. Doing business costs money.

I get mine done for about $60-$80, depending how much needs done, ie- full on rebuild from jump street including a nice long dunk in the tank or just a freshening up. I've got my generator over at my guys shop now getting done, I'll know more tomorrow how much that's gonna run me. He's been doing this stuff forever. zero social skills but the amount of knowledge in his head would rival anyone on the HAMB.

That's about what I'd charge depending on what kind of 2bbl. I use a large ultrasonic instead of solvent though, cleans better and gets into places the solvent won't plus it's easier cleanup afterwards.
