Saw these Sunday along Rt 40near Ferrum College. Cars continue into woods including long row of shoe box Fords. Proves they still exist. Multiple "Keep Out" signs kept me out. Will try to go back on a sunny day and get permission to photo more. Wonder how many old "Shine cars" in in there? Franklin County is still called The Moonshine capitol of the world.[IMG]

Used to be LOTS of places like that in VA when I lived up that way. Are Blondies and Clyde Turner's still operating there on the mountain above Philpot Dam? Clyde had an old still mounted on top of his store building. It was quite the conversation piece and Clyde was quite the conversationalist.

I had a customer redoing his model a sedan that his dad bought new from a dealer in 'The Plains' VA. Behind the upholstery in the back (it was a two door) was a copper tank running down both sides and across the rear and joined by hosing with a hidden outlet spigot. There was no way to fill it. After asking a lot of people he found that there was a big business running hooch into DC and these tanks were dealer installed options at special request, he believed that this one was never finished because prohibition got repelled.

  5. I think I saw that same yard a few years ago, My son went to Ferrum, My buddy and I stopped and talked to a couple of guys who pretty much told us that no one was allowed back in the woods! We stopped a few other places and the locals weren't to glad to see us, one guy even told us that If Your not from around there,You're not really welcome! so We packed it in and went home!
