cool find! in larry davis' G***er Wars book there's a killer MGA g***er! this is the HAMB after all! you know you want to.
Dmv can work but if anything can possibly go wrong now you're in their clutches. Have you checked the vin to make sure it matches the ***le? Sounds dumb but I didn't, I ***umed when I bought the car with a ***le that it matched the vin. Nope! Aaa is safest. If you need more help pm me. Cool wheels, I love Brit cars. G***er would be coool!
Wow! That is beautiful. One of the most beautiful LBC designs. In case you are not yet hipped, the British Car Forums have been a great hekp for me with my Midget. http://www.britishcarforum.com/bcforum/ubbthreads.php/forum_summary
My folks bought a '62 MGA a couple years ago. Can't keep them out of it. The great thing, is that the online after market for parts on MGA's is incredible. You could probably build one from scratch. You're going to have a blast. Well done.
Oh, BTW, I had to go through a similar process when I bought my Honda CT90. It fell off of DMV records in the late 1970s. I did finally make an appointment with the CHP, got the guy to confirm the numbers and then AAA did the rest. However, there was much *****ing at the CHP about how someone at AAA did not do something correctly, like I give a ****. Some people don't have to worry about acting like jack***es at work. Anyways, the officer deigned to do someone a huuuuuge favor this last time by reading the number on my very old "pink" pink, then reading the number on the case and then printing out a piece of paper with words and numbers on it. The paper contained joy. The AAA person took the joy and made it into a sticker and a reg. I made sure they reactivated the vintage black plates cuz I'm not a ****er. Stick with it. Take notes of the conversations so you have clear records if someone in the food chain tries to dead-end you. Soon, it will done.
Moss Motors is your savior. Get their bumper sticker right away: "Parts Falling Off This Car Are Of The Finest British Manufacture"
Hmmm...an Ecotec turbo and manual ****** from a Saturn Sky Redline... No mo slow! Or a Buick 215 V8...
LOL, that's going to be my new catch phrase anytime somebody shows me a car I'm really not interested in (I like the MG btw..). For example: Other guy: "Hey, check out my new Lexus LS400 with the chrome porthole stickers on the side" Me: "Cool, I dig volkswagens!"
The neat thing about British roadsters is that water leaks in the top, and oil leaks out the bottom. I'm surprised England isn't swimming in oil!
Great find! Being a glutton for punishment, I've had two of 'em during my checkered past, identical '59 1500 roadsters. Split personality automobiles. Greatest thing in the world with the top down - hot, smelly and noisy with the top up. Got that Joe Lucas/"Prince of Darkness" thang goin' on, but I actually never had any electrical woes with either of mine. The friction-operated turn signal canceller is kind of a hoot, though. Yeah, I know this is the HAMB, but some things just don't need to be screwed with. The MGA roadster is a beautiful body style. As for appearance, I'd leave it pretty stock. Performance-wise, if I felt the real need for an upgrade, a larger and/or more modern 4-banger would be my first choice. For instance, the Quad 4 with it's Offenhauser looks would be a natural. Mate it to an appropriate 5-speed and rear end and you'd have a natural continuation of the original concept of the car My second choice would be a V6. Less "traditional" than a 4, but should fit the short engine bay well. I have a 4.3 in my Astro van and it's a ballsy motor! Personally, I'd skip any thought of a V8 conversion, and particularly any "g***er" ********. These were invisioned as driver's cars. They were meant to handle, perform well and entertain on the narrow curvy British lanes of the day. Get off the boulevard and find some roads that fit the car. I think a heavy V8 would upset the natural balance of the car and convert it to a straight-line only performer. (Yawn....!) So there's my 2 cents' worth. (Well, actually ya got about a buck and a half's worth, but I was havin' a sale today.) Great car ..... enjoy!
ya moss motors is the bomb,,so far they have had everything i need and its here the next day.......................gotta get me one of those bumper stickers...........
