Is this a badge or honor or just a really lame souvenir?

Pretty funny you would pick this RPU, The guy who owns it is a friend of mine that makes his living and a pretty dam good one doing what he loves and getting paid to do it (working with cars all day long.) You could check out some issues current and past of Hot Rod Magazine and magizines of the like as well as a handful of TV shows. He just isnt an arrogant "look at me" like most others.

They stick them on every car entering the perfered parking and it has nothing to do with being a Roadster or being shiny/complete or getting an award.

Who owns that truck or how he makes his living doesn't matter to me at all.

Aparently these little stickers are a protected species in some circles.

Like I said, I can understand one maybe if you make the trip. I just don't get the multiples. No harm, no foul, I just don't get it....& FWIW, I don't get more than one HAMB tag either.

too bright. So he covered some of the lens up.

Actually the left side has ONE sticker - looks like a Hamster stickers to me ~ a motorcycle club. The other is the ID card from the GoodGuys show where the picture was taken. The right side has an SCTA sticker.
    Again ~ who cares?

Here's the rules for showing inside the gate.

The stickers aren't given to those in the swap/specialty parking area but anyone can get one at the booth inside (for a buck I think- I never bought one)
They are put on the headlight on Sat. so you can drive inside on Sunday. Every year is a different color.

I've seen suede cars inside the show in vender area & they get a sticker- shiny or not- finished or under construction.

Went to the "official" LA Roadster site & WTF- someone forgot to pay to renew their domain!

If it's a status symbol put the damn thing on your windshield.

Not really. I drive at night, a lot. Stickers on the headlights are pretty silly. A dash plaque or timing tag doesn't impede night time driving.

The LA Roadster members working the gate put them on the headlight. You do not do it yourself.

I,m with HOTRODDON, you need to get over it! I got my 1st one for the 50th after driving with my wife, don't tell me that I didn't earn that one. She's to used to the pampered life and that doesn't include a 2 day ride in an open roadster to get there. I'll get my 2nd one this coming fathers day, cause we're going to be able to make the trip again. As far as blocking the light goes, it's no worse than the splat of a ****erfly on your lens. I see enough of them left on to show that it might have been driven. Now go change the diaper on your time out doll.

Beats the hell out of spiderweb and iron cross decals.

When I filled several pages of a photo album after a major rod trot I usually used the window sticker on the lead page to show which show the photos were from.

I had the "I drove" 50th anniversary from the gathering of street cars at Bonneville in 88 on the quarter window of My 51 Merc until I sold the car as I considered that a badge of honor. The new owner promptly shaved it off.

I've got a couple hundred dash plaques in the drawer but the only one that may go back on the truck is the first one it earned at Tulsa in 1973 as I thrashed like a maniac for three months to get the truck there painted and upholstered.

If someone elses head light stickers is the biggest thing we have to worry about we must have a pretty good life is all I have to say. Yea it's a bit silly and a bit over done but it's his car and it looks like a damned nice car.

I've appraoched a few guys near their cars with those stickers on the headlights thinking I was going to have a conversation about them attending the LA Roadster show. No such luck, they just bought them from a guy in IN that makes and sells them. Now days I don't even pay any attention to the stickers on the headlights cuz so many are faked.

You get them in preferred parking area too - BFD. Peel mine right off on the Sunday pm.

A timing tag is a badge of honor - not some "I paid the entry fee to the show" adverti*****t.

  19. Y'all wear hot rod T-shirts, do you not?

Got speed equipment stickers on your windshield?
Trad from back in the day y'know.

Stickers or plaques, ok with me.
Cool to see on any car, regardless of where its been.

The Route 66 Fun Run does an interesting one.
They have license plates made up.

Helpful to the guys & gals doing the Saturday (three day event) show if you install the plate on Friday when they're handed out.

If you have a plate, you get waved through with no probs, otherwise they have to stop you and peruse your show entry info.

As you can see, every year they're different.
    Last years had flames.
Whoever does the artwork does a nice job.

So far, every year my plate number equals the CID of an engine, stock, aftermarket and strokers in some cases.
This year I should get plate #247 . . . gotta do some digging to find an engine with the same CID.

You can find leftover plates from the Route 66 souvenir shop at the power station across the street from Locomotive Park.
Can't miss it, there's a large by huge Northern steam loco on display across the road.
Your kids - and probably you - will enjoy the big model train display that is almost always running.

$10. per plate last time I looked.

I saw plate #1 for sale a couple years back.
    Probably shoulda grabbed it.

Since Sunny Arizona doesn't require a front plate, I leave it on all year round....

I don't understand why some people have such sorry lives they can't get excited about anything, or maybe you just think you're too cool.

Did somebody pee in your Wheaties this morning or something?

Here's the deal for me. I started reading about the L.A. Roadster show when I was a kid in high school in NJ. Since it was covered in all the magazines it must be a big deal, so it always has been special to me.

Once I was living in San Diego I went as a spectator several times over the years and, I'm not afraid to admit it, I dreamed about having a car of my own in that show.

In 2005, that dream came true. My wife and I drove from San Diego up and back each day. (We had a family obligation on Saturday night and couldn't stay up there) So both mornings it was up and on the road by 4:00 am, 125 miles to the Pomona Fairplex, 125 miles back.

My sticker's not a fake, I didn't buy it, I earned it. I'm proud of it and it's still on my left headlight to this day and will remain there until it fades to unreadable. I also have the dash plaque in the car and the mug has got an honored place on display in the house.

Two years ago we were at the Goodguys event in Charlotte and a group of folks from the L.A. Roadsters was also there on vacation. They saw that sticker and the dash plaque and that sparked a great conversation and we made some new friends that day.

So, call me gay, say I have an ego problem, say it's stupid, but I say these are the little things that make life interesting, exciting, and fun.

Some of you need to relax and try to enjoy life! Ya know, it's okay.

And I think most guys understand having one sticker that means something to you. When you have 10+ stickers it is clearly less of a challange or accomplishment to have attended and then begins to smack of something else and starts to look stupid.

  22. Oh I agree. There is a difference between running a status symbol on your firewall and running it in a place where it is going to be hazardous to you and other drivers. I agreed with his comment in that both cir***stances are an expression of status and thus essentially superfluous. The difference is, running a plaque on your firewall or dash lacks the sophomoric touch of having a stack of stickers piled up on an already less than perfect headlight arrangement.

i drove my roadster from houston, texas to the roadster show six times, with no top.i view it as a badge of honor to get you car out and drive it.when the sun is baking your head at 125*,you will think the same way as i do.

as for the show, only shiny paint roadsters with upholstery can get into the show.when you do,you get a sticker and a mug at the end of the show on sunday.if your car is not finished, they have special parking out in the swap meet area for you to park.you also get a sticker when you park out there.

my mom was standing by her roadster and heard two guys whining about having to drive 75 miles to get there.the two guys wanted to slide under there cars when they found out that she had driven her roadster 1800 miles one way to get there.

If a sticker on the headlight lense doesn't float your boat, I have an idea. Ignore it! Shut your yap. Nobody is giving you a hard time for your life challenges, are they?
