Maybe this photo of the famous Clarkaiser "Arctic Sands" will help you think outside the box. They used a '48 Ford pickup grille shell fitted with headlights and a grille made from '53 ford pieces. You could french your own shell from exhaust tubing, and make your own grille.

  3. This is temporary, but I cut the bars off and the grill bar is the front bumper off a '65 Corvair... the fiber gl*** chin is from Fairlane. the pieced together trim is already off... yech.

The plan is to slice and dice the top grill bar to fit the '42 hood, and maybe lose one bar space them out so there is only 2, still playing around with it... It's also going to get 60 Lark headlight rings.

Pretty hard to beat an early Cad grill I would kill for one of those hahaha, but the likelyhood of finding one around here is pretty slim. How is the build coming along Chad, I have been following it for a long time before I found the 47 moredoor that I am trying to piece together.

The Corvair bumper doesnt look to bad, nice and simple, the main reason I am looking for ideas is because of how bad my two grills are, its probably alot more work to try and salvage one from the two than to come up wit something new....

Here was a simple approach used on the wifes 48 grill. Keeping it simple on the rear is frenched mercury cougar third lights for stop and signal-Worked for us.

Nice start you got going there Chad. Like the grill but around here would be impossible to locate. I would like to see it when you finish it. Should look killer!

I did, but I couldn't find any extra 46-48 ford grills to make use of, so I used the 48 cadillac grill I found in a dumpster!

Nothing is impossible to locate. They are just as rare here in Maryland as anywhere else. There are parts on my car that I searched for months for, with tons of phone calls, emails, referrals, etc. Its all about how dedicated you are to finding the exact part you want.

Too funny - that is the same reason I ended up using the Plymouth grille. The Ford grille I had was swiss chesse and I couldn't find a replacement. I bought the Plymouth grille for $65 on eBay.

At least you were able to call your local Mercury dealer and get the same Cougar tailights. They look great in there!

I agre with Jeff, the Olds has got to be one of the best looking to swap in. I am really beginning to like the Plymouth ones I have seen too.
