Interesting concept Brian. A couple of guys talked about doing this up in Atlanta, but it never happened for whatever reason. If it's in Ft. Lauderdale, are you thinking about the armory? I agree with everyone else that it is a great idea, you just need to make sure the revenue produced is enough to at least cover the dough you have to lay out. One of the guys in the club owns a production company based out of Ft. Lauderdale. If you want to speak with him, I'll get you his number. You definitely have the support of the Saints and Sinners.

Great idea! Super nice cars inside. Drivers outside perhaps. Get some vendors to come. Oh yeah, and you'll need a spot for bikes.:D BP, Easter Rod Run, and Daytona Spring show are pretty much it until TRR, so anywhere in between would be good.

Indoor quality? You mean trailer queens right? Cars that can't make it 50 miles on their own? Too low, too flimsy, too hot, too noisy, too pretty, too uncomfortable? And the "drivers" get (to pay?) to sit outside in the sun. NO FUCKING WAY. I saw both trailered traditional and trailered rat rods at the last Billet Proof show in Ocala. Jeez Louise. If your "car" is just a quasi-functional, pinstripped ego trip, why not just get a bigger watch? How about a 250 mile reliability run before a car is even elligible to be indoors?

As for the location, if you want a LOT of cars, why not pick someplace like a multi-level parking lot (like at a mall or big hotel) and have a "shaded" car show that everyone can enjoy? Think of an extra big La Playa sort of place. Or a big park with a lot of trees? Gary

I just went to a show on March 8th at the Elliot Museum http://elliottmuseumfl.org/ in Vero Beach.
There were about 100 cars outside but, they also have a museum with a bunch of cool stuff inside including about 30 or so cars. Everything from a 1901 Ford to the first Electric car to a 1984 Fiero.
The show itself was cool. A few rat rods, the normal Chevelle group and some big money Rolls and Bentleys. Strange mix but, pretty cool.

Nope! thats not what is ment at all! There are plenty of really nice cars that would fit indoors that have the pants driven off of them. Step down from the soapbox please....

Thats show is in Stuart. Movin Man, Im talking with the Armory yes. Dave Rupp has a bs clause in his contract that no other "car" event can happen within 6 months of his shows. You figure that math out! The Armory was not aware of what he did untill I explained it to them

I like the idea of an indoor show in the summer.

  10. Great idea - most indoor shows usually show "ISCA trailer queens that never fire up or driven"! Just keep in mind that some of the entries will be "in your face, bad to the bone" hot rods and customs that are open headered and smoke like hell. In that case, getting 'em in would have to be rushed a bit and prevented from idling too long... Bring it on!!!!

    Brian,
Good ideas. Would be nice if a guy could find a large facility that could house 200 cars. This way it would be on the scale of a Detroit Auto Rama,. Trust me, the HotRods and Customs are here, and they will come if marketed.
Let us 'Poor Boys' know if we can be of any assistance.

Don't they generally push the cars around by hand when they are inside of a building?

WOW Brian ....... I'm so honored my friend! I will make all efforts to be able to be there.
    THANK YOU !

  15. With all the businesses closing around here in Florida, there should be PLENTY of indoor space to be had :(

Might I suggest having it at that big injun casino out there in the sticks?
Booze, gambling, booze, casino whores, booze, and cars!

Casinos will usually pick up some of the expenses too. When we used to own the stock car track on the Mississippi coast, the casinos would throw in all kinds of perks for our late model championships. If you have it there, I'm sure they would kick in for advertising, comp rooms, pre and post parties, etc etc, and I'm sure they have the indoor space. Just a thought.

  16. I too would like to see something, but no trailer queens, or the queens that go with them. I'm not interested in seeing unrealistic, no budget cars because that is not reality.
There should be reserved parking for people driving period cars that are not participating in the show and a swap-meet. Maybe a burnout pit......

Exactly my point.i wont pay to see a bunch of "rat rods" inside a building.
i would love to see some historical cars, new fresh creations customs as well as hot rods.
i know i sound like a selfish asshole, but the current state in Florida of quality driver show cars is not like the North east or even the west coast..i like the idea of drivers only in the building. But,shit box barely welded, shopping cart seated rat rods i wont want to see.
i picture an indoor show like the ones back in the day like the Hartford Autorama.Nice quality show cars of that era.i know i have nothing that i would put inside a building and be proud of showing. But i guess i am just out of touch being stuck in the garage all day and nite working on cars. Then there is the entry fees, what can be charged with this state of the economy? Can these guys drive down from other states...
I dont know Brian but i guess i am just a realistic prick,or maybe just a pesimist..I wanted to do a car show/dirt track race similiar to Jalopy Showdown,we have full access to the Hendry county speedway but not much interest from people i guess getting the car dirty and thrashing is not very popular.i hope that it works out.World Of Wheels worked down there for a long time maybe it can be brought back.As far as diggin on me for offering my opinion we will see how many of these guys will show up with there cars if you pull the show off,i know some will but i also know alot wont.
and remember this is just my .02 of bullshit from a Zanax taking fool...

    I agree.

It amazes me how guys down here get so upset about the possibility of "trailer queens" showing up at carshows, and then they fawn and drool over a bunch of cobbled-together shitmobile eye-sores just because they're owner built and driven. Our "traditional" hot rod scene is straight out of OSR.

Anyone can throw a piece of shit together and drive it to a carshow. It ain't rocket surgery, but some of these guys act like they stumbled over the holy grail or something.

I'd much rather look at a well put-together trailer queen that actually took some skill, patience, and craftsmanship to build (and that ACTUALLY RESEMBLES A TRADITIONAL HOT ROD), than some ugly, pile of shit, gay rockabilly-lifestyle-themed rat-rod with with bird-shit slag welds everywhere, skulls painted all over it, air cleaner housings made of PBR cans, 4 foot high zoomies, and rubber rats all over the fucking thing (like we didn't get the whole "rat" theme as soon as we saw it). Gag.

A show for true traditional hot rods would be great, but something tells me it would just turn into another Florida rat-fest.

sounds pretty cool to me! if i can get enough gas and get down south without my truck breaking down you can count me in. as far as the whole florida hotrod-ratrod scene thing... i dont know where i fit in with all that. i just like making things fast, simple, and functional. but sounds like a very cool event and i could probably get quite a few guys from up here in volusia and brevard county to join in and help fill a big room...

  20. repoguy, I agree with what you are saying.

But I think that some people are missing what Brian said early in this thread--
He said an invitational indoor carshow. So I would assume that would rule out the random rat rod showing up.

I agree that the whole "I'm a hardcore lifestyler and high quality finished cars suck, man" attitude is sorta gay at this point, and is like soooo 5 years ago.

Jesus people, if you don't want to see that type of show, then stay the hell home. I don't even have a car that runs right now, much less an indoor quality car, but I'd still go if it comes together. People need to lighten the f' up!!

And yes there are quality cars in Florida, if you look past the spray can crowd.

3/17/09 Gee, a nicely designed car built with a high degree of craftsmanship is what enjoy seeing at any car show. I don't care if it's a trailer queen as that's the owners personal perogative. I'm just glad it was built and brought to the show for all to see and enjoy.:)

I think the "invitation only" part rules out anything that's poorly built clown junk. An inside traditional show is a great idea if someone can make it happen.

No problem. Been at work on my car today so youz guys are saved some of my normal BSing. However, comma, I do like a show were all are equal. I only understand trailer queens when it comes to a guy from 2000+ mi away, someone who is handicapted, wounded vets, amputees, etc. But a guy that makes a 50 mile tow because his car was always stored on the trailer in anticipation of the next show... I got no time for them.

How about another approach. Like an art show, make it a "juried" show? How about inviting a well respected builder / historian / journalist familair with the "scene" but not necessarily with Florida cars and get that person to select the rides from photos submitted on applications. Those selected by mail would make a temporary "first cut."

Then on the morning of the show, those pre-selected cars get looked at again first thing (photos can lie, eh?) by the same juror to see if they are truly first class / historical / important / trend setting cars. If so, they are then let inside after this second cut.

Any the rejects from the first cut and the rest of the normal folks would go outside and hopefully some place close and in the shade.

Any previously un-screened cars / or cars that did not make the "2nd cut" might be able to make another run at the judge later in the morning if the hall still has room.

No fancy pants displays, lava lamps, etc. Perhaps ropes and stancions. Club displays would be cool, if the club got selected cars inside. Park the cars just as they would be parked if outside. Leave space around the outside of the show area some where so the owners / familes of the indoor cars would have a place to hang out without being camped directly adjacent to their cars.

You could call the show, Made in the Shade! LOL

    Later, Gary

And all this crap is why a show like this wont go over at all...I dont blame him if he just says fuck it..it aint worth the hassel....a "indoor" quality car is all in the beholder..and to be honest if I was one of the lucky few to get into the indoor part I want my "A" to look good and polished and clean..so if it comes 200 miles by trailer so what..it beats trying to detail your car in the motel parking lot or at the drive thru wash joint...what ever im ranting....Ill go and support it no matter, i just like cars

Eric, I agree with you entirely. There is a big difference and its being missed here. A car that spends its life on a trailer and is rolled off for show is a TRAILER QUEEN. A car that is detailed stuck on or in the trailer to go even 5 miles to a show like I am planning is NOT a TRAILER QUEEN. Trailer queens are not and will not be the focus of this show. If Barry Mazza can drive the "Aztec" , you get my point.

Keep the dialog flowing, this is what will make this show work and be successfull.

That is my point to keep the dialog open, and maybe help you plan the show so it can be a success for many years....
i wish Mike Scott`s show at Dreher Park came back. That car show was tits.

    gnichols,

That is your perogative to hate trailered cars. I commend busted knuckles on wanting to put on and indoor show. I have built cars and bikes with my father since I was a youngster. These cars where top notch cars that would win indoor shows but we drove them. I was never pissed when someone else cleaned house on use becuase they trailered them. They built their cars for a purpose just like we built ours for a purpose.

I personally love looking and hobbled together peices of shit as much as I do love looking at GNRS and ridler cars, they all serve a single purpose and that is the love for cars and bikes.

So stop worrying about everyone elses decisions on how they well utilize their cars and just enjoy the hobby that I hope you love.

We all need to support busted knuckles becuase florida needs a show like this.

Busted knuckles if you need any help of any kind please feel free to contact me through PM I will give you my number.

    Thanks

    Nick
