By far my most favorite custom is the Jimmy Vaughn '53 Ford. It's perfection!

Mine by far are Jesse James and Jimmy Shine. Rad Rides By Troy has some great fabricators too.

  8. Of the one's no longer with us, it would have to be Frank Kurtis, a genius designer who could do it all in the shop. sScond choice would be John Buterra. Un parralleled machining skills.

Jesse would be right at the top for my choice of current builders. Can do it all, and has a good head for business that a lot of the old school builders didn't have.

Roger Goldhammer - he only does bikes but they are works of art and they work. He even built one for Bonneville.

  11. Since the question specified FAVORITE, I've gotta say none other than Aaron Grote, aka Plowboy.
Oh yeah, there's a bunch of exceptionally talented people already been named, but.......
For a guy who's NOT a professional car builder, but has turned out some of the most memorable and creative things ever in the past few years, Aaron is a RULER. Plus he's one of the most approachable, laid back and humble guys I've ever known  And can out-drink most of us too(an admirable trait, no doubt:eek:)
    No shit, Plowboy's the man.

Ed "Big Daddy" Roth for his fiberglass work and innovative ideas.
Steve Sellers for metal work. One of the most detailed I've seen. Amazing
Gene Winfield for just being an all around bad ass. The shit he comes up with boggles the mind.

I have nothing to add! All my favorites have been mentioned! There isn't one mentioned here that I like more than another. They all do things just a LITTLE BIT different, yet ALL come up with splendid results. I strive to learn from all of them, one way or another.

Out of all of those guys, he's the only one I would work for. The rest are just goobers who have no idea what managing a team or a project are all about.

Which reminds me, the dice man with the big old man glasses on asking if the bakery hat made him look stupid. Seriously Dice, you think it's the hat?

It's interesting to note that some very talented fabricators came out of Mickey Thompsons shop in the early to mid '60's. The two above along with Ron Butler & Phil Remington who both later went to work at Shelbys. Mickey was into land speed racing, drag racing, endurance records, and Indy cars. So lots of work for these talented folks.

Gee I hope I'm not mixing up my history.... I'll do more research to make sure.

There really isn't enough room to list all the great Fabricators/Builders that influenced me and most all of us . Anyone that has ever taken a hammer & dolley to make something are all the great ones because you made it with your own hands ! You learned from watching someone else doing it and hopefully someone will learn from you and the art of a being a great Fabricator/Builder will never die ! Just my 2 cents , so pass it on to someone else !

Growing up in and around racing all my life, I'd have to say the best fabricators are located in Charlotte NC. NASCAR guys! I wouldn't put motorcycle assemblers in the same category.

    Then there's Smokey Yunick too!

Littleman for sure, I watch all the time to see Deaths door step take a leap forward towards completion...

Plowboy, some of the show rods he builds are insane...hell they are all insane.

    And Jimmy White...pure talent!

    Bass...Nuff said.

There are many more, but out of the "here and now" they are the first that come to mind.

  28. Mine? All the genius fabricators I had the pleasure to work with in the defense industries realm who's names you'll never know and unless your in our crosshairs, who's work you'll hopefully never experience.

After that....my second choices would be all the amazing fabricators I work with on my day job in the automotive industry. They're brilliant too.
