I am scratching my head wonder what part clips into the door sill. I have attached pic's to ID what I am asking. Is there an other part that fits over here to seal the lower door and match with the sill. I have never seen one over 4 x T coupes I have owned. Note the rectangular slots along the inner edge of the sill.
My '24 has sill plates but to tell you the truth, it's been so long that I don't remember how they attach. My sill plates say Ford on them. What year are we inquiring about?
My coupe is a 1926/27 I guess I ***umed that most folks know I have a 26/27, must have been half asleep myself. I know the model A roadster pickups have some sort of clip on screw on thing on the sills, but never seen a model T item yet I was hoping to know what it looked like so I can chase one down or at least copy something similar. Thanks for your interest.
my new Mac's catalog doesn't show any seals for the doors. then in a blue box above some universal rubber seals it says "ford never included door seals, but we have found this is the answer on all early fords."... I really don't know if there was or wasn't, but I've got to find something to seal my doors too.
fiftyV8- Do you have sill plates? My '24 (I just looked) had sill plates that bolt on. '26 & '27 are probably different as they are steel bodies. A spare '24 sill plate (divers side) FWIW.
Thanks guys, I know it is a tricky ask, but lets see if we can get to the bottom of it. I have asked out this forum also, so if I get any feedback out side I will post it here for future reference. I am sure something must fit in or clip into those slots.
My 26 T 2dr does not look like that. It has a still plate, but no slots. I'v not seen that before, but Henry did alot of different things. My sedan has different style hinges on each door, from the factory.
Funny thing is I dont see on this sill any place for what usually you would expect to have an aluminum FORD plate on the top of the subframe rail, which is what originally got me thinking that something else larger or of a different configuration must have been fitted. the slots are definitely factory done. I also am now going to check out at least 2 other coupes of the same year to see what they have in the sill area.
looked at my 27 coupe no slots here either. Howell sheet metal does show a sill plate but it is steel not aluminum but no tabs for the slots
My memory is too bad to get ALL the details but my coupe has the slots and when I bought the sill plates, they sent the wrong ones but knew enough to send the right ones when I told them slots.
This is the best info we have had so far, do you have pic's or can you tell us who was the supplier etc. As I mentioned earlier the 28/29 model A rpu has a individual sill setup, so I am guessing some of these T coupe also got some mods to help seal or dress up the sill area. Be nice to clear it up once and for all.
I thought that was why they invented mig welders,to take care of things only restorers would be concerned about. Just taking the piss Russ. Take Care.
If I remember correctly, I ordered from Howells http://fordor.com/ They sent the wrong ones, then sent the correct ones after I told them slots.
Cheers Russ,New Zealand trip was excellent, took in Kumeu Swap and show, road trip of the north Island, then down south to Musclecar Madness, then Scavengers hotrod Rattleup, absolutely awesome trip mate. Hope to catch up soon Chris.
Well I just checked Howell's website and have come up with a sill they sell for a 26/27 T coupe part # S-146B @ $50 pair Still scratching my head on this one as it is obviously not for the slotted hole version. But we must be getting closer to finding the answer now!
I have told you twice already. I ordered the sills from Howells and they sent the wrong one, the one pictured. When I told them I needed the one for slots, they sent the correct one
I appreciate what you told me I am just thinking out aloud and thoughts on here help make a record for other future readers. Why I was mentioning this again was I was wondering even how the pictured items attached and then wondering still what the slotted versions would be like. I appreciate your contribution to my questions you have turned up with the best info. Were the items you ended up with steel or aluminum and were they the same price?
I just went out and checked my 26 coupe and I have the 5 tabs like you do. It may be a Canadian T you have. Does it use Robertson (square head screwdriver) screws to hold the dash, window garnishes, etc on instead of slot screws. That is the easiest way to tell a Canadian built T or A. Mine is an original car, so the 5 slots are original. The sill plates have tabs on them and are made of aluminum. Pat.
No, surprisingly enough it has the slotted head screws. It also has that funny top door hinge on the pillar which has 3 screws into the main face and then it has a 90 degree bend in the hinge plate that screws also into the windshield garnish area with another 2 screws. Some I have seen with only 2 screws into the pillar part of the hinge but this has 3 similar to the lower hinges. Must be something to do with either factories or end of runs, such as happened with model A closed cab pickups and model T doors. Similarly with the 2 versions of hinges some with the finger type and the others with the barrel type. We will get to the bottom of it soon.
