Saw an ad on Craig's list for a 32 Ford "Farm Truck" The gentalman said it was mostly complete but rough, needed a total restoration. I didn't think it would intrest me but I went and looked at it anyway, expecting a beat up old truck in a field. Geez, it had straighter metal then any unrestored old Ford I've seen, the banger is in it and turns, perfect hood and grill, amazing condition for a truck. Bad part is it's a 1 1/2 ton flatbed. Questain is how much of this truck would be the same as a pick-up. The cab, hood and grill looks like they'd interchange but how about the front fenders? Front axle? Any market for 1 1/2 ton stuff if I keep the body?
The fenders are the same . The front suspension is simular but all heavier. The steering column has a car drop but the wheel, box, etc all different.
body is the same. frame, axles, brakes, wheels/tires, etc. are all different. not much market for the big stuff. see quite a few on ebay and they usually fail to sell, even for modest amounts. i'd pay whatever the body is worth.
Nope! axle is different i think the column drop is different, i had a 32 1-1/2 column and compared to pics of a 32 p*** and it was different, i think! Basically the cab hood and grille are the same, and the fenders maybe, i cant remember if the opening for the wheels are a little bigger and if where they mount to the frame is the same. plus theres alot of guys looking for "b" banger 4 cylinder motors. JEFF
search" 32 thru 34 truck frame question" Im in the middle of it with my 34 BB frame, building a half ton pu, Im glad I went with the 1.5 ton frame, its not rocket science to trim it down, I got some damn good information on that thread, ....Vic
Confession. Not positive. They could be longer for clearance with the big wheel. My bad. Pic is a p***. drop.
Lot's of good info, thanks guys. Oviously the frame, rear axle hubs and brakes are bigger, wasn't sure on the ft axle, looked like it could be heavier. Steering box and wheel looked like car stuff but it's been awhile since I really looked at one, the column sleeve and drop is missing. Glad to hear the fenders are the same, these are nice ones. Are the bangers all the same, truck/car? Yes, I'm sure it's a 32. The plan is to put it on a virgin 32 frame (bare except I have the rear axle/ spring) I have and build a flathead powered PU, hope to use as much of this truck as I can. I'll post pictures of it when I get it home, I hope tomorrow.
I looked up the ad, I dunno about the other guy. So I would ***ume 3k and down Seems kinda high for only using the cab out of the deal. There was a good bare cab on ebay that went for 500 bucks in Colorado that was missing the doors just like 2-3 months ago. If it was a regular pick up than great deal
Yeah, well... Wait till you try and find a decent pair of doors for one of these trucks!! $4-$500 each for beat up rusty ones is common... Seems like a pretty good deal for a nice '32 cab to me...
I think you did good probably worth around 6 or 7 thousand .I was at good guys talking to a guy who used the frame in question , He shortened it . ze''d it in the rear and he retapered the front .Beautiful truck. All you need is a dream and a vision and anything is possible. And also a welder .Carcrazyjohn
There you go, I didn't beat him down much I saw the ad for the one in Colorado and thought about it. Start adding the price of doors, hood, fenders, grill, dash, ect, ect and subtracting what I can sell off (particularly the banger) I feel like this would work better for me. Coupes and roadster look great without fenders and hoods but I personally (just me, don't start the hate mail!) think pickups need them so if I'm going to do a truck I need to weigh that in.
firewall, 500-700 banger 500-1000 (get it running) grille shell 300-400 hood 100-1500 (20 or 25 louvers) cab and doors 1500 fenders 100-200 each and on and on, it was a good deal. cool to know the column drop is the same, hope i didnt throw the one i have away! JEFF
Fenders 100- 200? Really? I looked 3 years for some for the Vicky, 600 (rough) to 1000 (decent but not NOS) each was more what I was finding, finally bought a new pair from Brooksville.
maybe ive seen alot of good deals then, if your looking then they always seem to fetch more money. i paid $75 each for some pretty decent fenders, ive seen some at a few swap meets for like 150 to 200 each that are in about the same shape as my $75 fenders, but maybe decent to me isnt as good to you, but hard to say. I have 4 good fronts 1 pair for my sedan and one pair for when i fender my 5 window, i also picked up some sedan rears for $100 each that were pretty good, they both had a bead crack in em but otherwise staight nice fenders. JEFF
Yeah, the story of my life, if I'm buying it's always worth a lot and if I'm selling it's no worth nothin... seems that way anyhow! Location might have a lot to do with it, any duece part is rare around here.
lol. when you are not looking for the part they are everywhere, but when thats the only thing you need the parts are nowhere to be found.
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=344534 I don't know, that looks alot like a standard 1932-'36 Ford axle in the top photo.
Honestly, since I've never dealt with any of this 1/2 ton ford stuff what's the difference between the axles?
they are just bigger, but bigger in a way that they wont work, i think the kingpin dia is bigger, the perch width is bigger, the perch hole is bigger dia, it all just bigger. so unless you want to be stuck running 1-1/2 ton ford spindles and brakes and hubs and wheels, you dont want to use it.
If this is a typo never mind but you do know were talking about 1 1/2 ton axles here and not the 1/2 ton. 1/2 ton axles are the same
