Hi, I live in Victorville Ca. If you are taking Rte 66 south from Barstow there is a small Diner across from the Cement Plant. It was one of the first place they stopped on the TV shoe - Diners, Driveins and Dives". It was pretty neat to see on the TV.

  7. In Joplin, MO you have Fred & Red's -- famous for their chilli and spaghetti
red. Only seating in the joint is a horse-shoe counter. It's about 17th &
    Main - 10 blocks S of Rt 66.

Or, the Sultan of Smoke BBQ right on the RT......on W 7th St in Joplin.

This old filling station has been rejuvenated on Main St in Galena, KS.

Springfield here. Just a few miles west (about 10-15) in Halltown there is an old original gas station that is there and in operation for pics and stuff. Cave Springs I think. Then a mile or two farther there is the longest stretch of original pavement in the US (supposidly) of 66. Not much other than that!

I'm just a few minutes from POPS and the Round Barn, in Arcadia, Oklahoma. If you decide you want to stop in Arcadia for a few minutes, PM me soon and I'll make sure I set that time aside! I'll bring the '37 Terraplane out!

I live a block and a half off Rt 66 in Tulsa. Not much to look at at my place, but I'm there for a rescue if needed. I'll PM my number for your emergency file.

drove the Oatman road from just south of Kingman AZ to Needles last week. We stopped at the Oatman Hotel for a good lunch and the middle of the street shootout re-enactment. what a great day---oh BTW you have to share the streets with the locals but it's fun if you have a bag of carrots

The parts of the 'old road' in California are so torn up your teeth would fall out if you travelled on it!

We drove the route last summer and it was sooooo great!!!
We used the guidebook by Jerry McClanahan, EZ66, route66
guide for travelers and it was a big help.
Sure it's time to time for kids with the GIANThunts and all but it tells everything about the mother road.
There's maps , attraction and historic details..
We drove the whole old route following the book and got lost only once..

Have a great time on THE route.. we did..:D

ps. promise that you'll visit the Devils Elbow!!!

How bad is the drive though Amboy? We took that loop back in 2006. Heard Roy's had a new owner, has he restored anything yet? Is there any chance to gas up at Roys?

I'm in Tijeras just off Rt 66...work in Albuquerque. If you can dawdle in ABQ, it's worthwhile - food at the Pioneer (or Grandma's K&I Diner off Broadway - get the 1/4 Travis), old town, lots of old original motor lodges still around for sight-seeing, etc. Great food everywhere (Mexican is hard to beat here - I really like Cervantes on Gibson)...we even have a Rudy's if you have a hankering for BBQ. If we had an In-N-Out burger, we'd have it all! ;)

If you're in Santa Rosa, NM then stop at the Silver Moon Cafe. It's right when you get off the freeway and back onto 66 just on your right. Say "heya" to the s***y waitress from M***achusetts for the guys from Detroit in the VW van :)

Oh yeah. And order the breakfast burrito. It's the best one you'll ever have, anywhere, anytime, ever!!!!!

What a great drive... I will do it over and over again.

Oh yeah! I forgot! Bring a can of spray paint with you and stop at the Cadillac Ranch just past Amarillo, TX.

And take plenty of pics to post right here when you get back. PM me when you do so I can look for the thread :)

In arizona, if you haven't traveled the sedona / oak creek canyon drive and jerome, and old mining town, that has become a weekend destination for rodders and bikers, they both are just south of 66. Beautiful drive.

The only reason to go to apache junction is to visit relatives, friends, or you are lost, ha. It is a nice drive, if you go south off of i-40 thru st. John thru pinetop/lakeside, payson, and/or globe traveling to apache junction.

Leaving apache junction, take 60w to 101 n, then take i-17n to 74w to wickenburg (where i live), then 93n to vegas, if you don't want to go to sedona, jerome, and flag, by way of i-17n to i-40w. It is an unbelievable 4hr drive from wichenburg to vegas, but if you have car trouble, you are in deep doodoo, until you get to kingman on i-40.

When you get close to Arcadia, the round barn, Pops, etc. drive slow! Arcadia is reputed to be a speed trap
