I just received my new H/F Eagle helmet, it's a large port auto darkening model and it works like a dream. It preforms as well as the high buck brands ,at 1/3 the price (79.99),which I have used many times in the past.. It really works well if you where bifocal gl***es,no more sore neck. .......Jack
Don't stare at the light, I use one of the self darkening Miller helmets, but If I had to replace it, I would buy a H/F for the bucks. I have a neighbor with the HF and it works as good as mine.
There is a difference in auto darkening lenses. If you do a lot of welding, check around, better ones have faster response rates, pro hoods list it in their literature, cheap ones don't say. Part of the difference when a manufacturer offers more than one quality. Better ones also have more sensors, handy in close quarters (tubing work, for instance) where something may block arc light from reaching a sensor. Personally, I prefer the gold lenses in a manual hood, I got 2 hoods with different shades. To me, I can see better through them. If you go with gold lenses, don't let them get scratched, they'll "leak".
