Well, I pick it up today, feel preety good about it. The more I look at it the more amazed I am of the condition of the metal, my buddys and I looked all over and couldn't find even one dent nor any signs of repair. Damn near unbelivable. A few tiny rust pinholes on the very bottom cab back and under one door. Had to coast it down a steep hill to get to my trailer, steers and STOPS! The old mechanical brakes worked alright. Puzzeled by the speedometer, shows less then 300 miles, couldn't be 100000+. Any guesses like it never left the farm and was only used at harvest? (I've heard of real low milage farm trucks but???) Maybe the speedo broke early on, wierd, but so is the condition. The old trucks we had on the farm when I was a kid were beat up. Tommorrow we are going to try to fire it up, if we can I'm taking it around the block! Then comes the tough part, figuring out what to do with it!

I didn't have the cash either, let alone a place to put it! Still couldn't p*** it up once I looked at it! I called on it a week ago, didn't sound to exciting so I didn't go look (it was in Edgewood). Yesterday I had to run out there for other buisness so I thought I'd take a look, turned out I was the first guy to bother driving out to see it. Funny how most people say something cherry and it's a pile , this guy described it as a pile so no lookers. Worked for me!

Have you ever seen Bob Rothenburgs (from St Louis) 1 1/2 ton hotrod truck called Big Fella? Originally put together by I believe Pete Eastwood. You can see it most years parked by the swapmeet at the Nats in Louyville. Very cool!

The possibilities are endless, car carrier, travel home, stake bed. You've got all kinds of directions you could go. Looks like fun. Eric Vaughn has one with a early SBC that runs and runs. Good luck, The FOGGER

LOL, no problem Dale. Not so bad anymore, at least we don't look alike anymore!

I'm leaning towards pulling the body and putting it on a nice 32 Frame I have with a repop pu bed and a Flatmotor. I have to admit I'd feel a little bad doing it, this thing is such a survivor (did I mention the motor number and frame numbers match!). I don't know, kinda like going under for a little cosmeditc surgery and waking up with a *** change, seems cruel! I dig the truck but really have no desire for a big truck. Hopefully I can find a restorer that needs a nice big truck minus the body. I might end up restoring it and selling it, putting the proceeds toward another body for my ch***is but I'm not certain that would make financial sense, dought if there is a big market for restored big trucks.

I'd say make a hot rod out of it (and I've been a member of the Antique Truck Club of America for 15 years). You're right, it's in incredible shape. Now I can see how my p***enger door is supposed to fit. That grill is one of the straightest I've ever seen. Now that's a barn find. Good going!

I got a good 1 1/2T from Oklahoma. Doin' the same thing with it, 32 car frame, 327, Muncie, quick change, new shortened bed from Mack Hil. Only had 19K miles on it, pretty good shape, not as good as yours. There are some pictures in one of my 'albums'. I was in the exact same debate as you, went with fun in the fast lane!!! Good luck!.

Sweet find, it would be a shame to turn it into a pickup. Leave it as a big truck and Hot Rod it. BTW those petals look like they have got more than 300 miles on them.

  25. Wow! that would be a work truck or Minihome to me!!!!!

Nice find! I would go with the repop bed and flatmotor, making it into a regular 1/2 ton. I would not chop the roof, leave the body near stock. How 'bout an early 60's hot rod/custom look, with some metal flake paint, cragar mags and skinny whitewall tires?

There is one of those not too far from me. What from the truck is the same as a regular pick-up? Is the cab the same?

    Pinholes... Pinholes!!! PINHOLES!!!!

Man you guys are spoiled rotten, you want pinholes! We got pinholes in ten year old cars up here. The stuff they put on the roads up here to melt snow and ice also melt cars AND trucks!

pinholes... I'll be mumbling that for hours..

    pinholes...

LOL, sorry man! Yeah, no dought we're spoiled here in the desert!
Actually this truck only been here for 4 years, the guy I bought it from brought it down from Oregon. He told me he bought it from the original family that used it on their orchard up there. Must of been barn kept, maybe not a lot of salt but I thought it rained alot up there.
