Marvel Mystery Oil reduces and prevents varnish and gum build-up, two key contributors to robbing engine performance.

Amazing what a simple ten second search provides
    http://www.marvelmysteryoil.com/

I first heard about it as a 15 year old high school auto shop student when the teacher said it could help free up stuck piston rings.

There are some posts on Google that seem to think it is part kerosene, but then maybe that's why it a "Mystery" I have used it since I got my first car back it '62,it's just good ****! I have had my share of old beater cars that had sat for a while and it seems to free up stuck rings and valves and blast out carbon, one bottle in the gas and one in the oil.

probably like Coka cola,it's some ordinary thing that we all see everyday.
But it's combination with other stuff creates something special.. like ATF.

    From a Chevelle forum:

Marvel Mystery Oil is mostly a common mineral oil with some red dye added for color and some wintergreen added for the pleasant smell. Mineral oil is the main ingredient in most laxatives and the food industry uses it all the time.

What sets MMO apart is that there is a bit of Benzine and Naptha added. Both are nasty and harmful to us in sufficient quan***y.

When mixed in gas the mineral oil (MMO) is atomized in the carburetor and helps soften the carbon buildup in IC engines before it flashes off with the rest of the fuel air mixture during the power stroke. With time it cleans the cylinder and valves nicely as the carbon blows out the exhaust a tiny bit at a time. Mixed in oil it does the same thing from the opposite side of the piston and valve guides.

  18. So just remember the same thing that loosens you up when you're constipated, will also loosen up your engine when it's rustipated.

I don't know what's in it but I put a set of used factory roller lifters in a coffee can of it a year ago to keep them from rusting until I could give them a good cleaning. They had a little oil on them and some light varnish that hadn't come off with my first cleaning attempt. I opened them up this weekend and they were SPOTLESS! I've used it for penetrating oil and always had good luck, didn't realize it was such a good cleaning agent.

  24. My dad was a tool and die maker, and he kept a squirt can of MMO next to the lathe all the time. He used it for everything, including a can EVERY oil change.
He thought it made the earth rotate. I should have kept some of those metal cans.
I do know from watching him that it works really well around the drill press.
My mother *****ed about the smell until he p***ed away. Hard woman to please....
    Oops, I was drifting....Thanks, Mike

Marvell Mystery Oil is a faith based belief system. Like many other things in life, you may believe in it because you used it and it did no harm. May have done no good either but that is beside the point.

When we were kids, a group of us tied leather strips around our ankles in the summer.
When people asked us what it was for, we answered Bear Scarers, keeps the bears away. Next question was Do they really work?? Our answer was "See any Bears??"

So we believed that o bears meant the leather was working, irrefutable evidence was the do***ented lack of bears in the area.

If you use MMO or any of the miriad of other automotive whiz bangs out there, and your perception is that your engine runs cleaner stronger, jumps higher, and smikes less, you are a happy camper.

So mineral oil softens carbon deposits, naptha is a proven cleaner, and gas and petroleum oil will carry them to where they might work. And further if it does no harm, you're good to go.

Since they have been selling it since the early 40's take the leap of faith.
