I got a boat load of free wire from work and am going to replace a bunch of the harness in my truck. I would like to use multi pin connectors similar to the wiring harnesses in production today. I can't find where to get them from. I need the matching male and female connectors, even if I have to crimp the pins on and push them into the connector. Where can I find something like this?

I work as a Regional Sales Manager for a connector manufacturer, but most of our products are targeted toward the cellphone, laptop and consumer electronics market.

There are a couple of major catalog distributors that carry thousands of different connectors. You would have to search their online catalogs to get what you want but the options are nearly endless. Both also accept credit card orders and ship the same day the order is received.

Try DigiKey www.digikey.com or Mouser Electronics at www.mouser.com . Both have sections of their catalogs for automotive connectors, but you should also check out the non-automotive connectors as they would work for connections inside the passenger compartment and offer even more options. We sell several of our connectors to automotive applications for entertainment systems, backup cameras and IPod docks so the commercial connectors in many cases will handle the automotive applications if you will pay attention to the environment they will be used in.

Good prices on Weatherpack connectors and regular multi- pin connectors.

    Their free cataloge is great!

Probably not good for a whole car, but I have used trailer lite wire connectors for things that I wanted to be able to unplug. Most are 4 to 6 wires.

Ditto. Waytek is amazing, and even though they sell terminals, etc. by the 10,000s, they still sell small lots to the little guy. And I learned a lot about the quality differences between connectors and wire insulation from their catalog. No more generic flea market terminals for me.
