Well the day was going along great..i finished making my custom fit spark plug wires..i even routed them and got them tied up in the right loom so everything in the engine bay would look like it was in order..changed out the plugs..played with the timing..got bit by the msd..saw stars for a little while..did smoke my timing light..damn lightning bolts come out of that box..got all the fluids checked went and got gas and i hit the road. Of course through no fault of my own..a newer mustang started to pick on my poor 56 dodge..we tried to ignore him..but after he said some not nice about our patina paint job..well lets just say the gloves came off..i opened up the dual quads on top of the 440 and proceeded to hammer the dog snot out of the guy..that was until i hit third gear..the tires on this dodge have never had a slipping problem..they always bite the ground real hard..well they bit a little to hard and i managed to grenade the rear end...bummer..back to scrounging another third member..one of these days i am going to get a dana 60 for the dodge..maybe that will give me a longer rear end life
awesome! and a blown rear 'tis but a flesh wound, can be fixed. I have a pretty healthy 54 dodge pilothouse and a dana 60 posi just waiting. Its already has a huge rear, looks like a ford 9 but not, its a front loader type, you have a clue what it is?
mopar 8 3/4 looks like a ford 9 inch fords (pretty stout too- 30spline stock). casting numbers usually end with 741(skinny pinnion),742(sure grip clutch type, or 489(auburn cone). there are other rears that have a drop out punkin as well, 50's olds are like that i believe.
The expression on his face was worth a thousand words..you know the one..what the hell this thing cant be pulling away from my new car..the rear end i have is a 8 3/4..it has been a really good rear end..i just tend to abuse it..i have on some 28 inch tall wrinkle wall tires..and well..when it hooks..it hooks hard..i just should have set it up with a dana 60 when i was first building the car..i think it might have saved me some down time
i sheared 8 teeth off of the ring gear and some more off of the pinion gear..your right tman..cant call it a win if you cant cross the line..but i had a hell of a lead on him
