So today at work I start talking with the boss about my model a, describing what it looks like and such. And then he proceeds to tell me that when he bought his house back in 70 something that there were lines of "old cars", "a couple that looked just like mine, some trucks from the same era and so on" on his property. He said that was back in the days before there were all sorts of crackheads taking cars to the scrap yard everyday so he had a buddy bring in a front end loader and then proceeded to dig a big hole and BURY them!! He said they put down a row of about three cars, ran over them back and forth, put a layer of dirt and did it again until they had all the cars buried. Anyone got a metal detector and a backhoe?? It kills me to hear stories like this or stories of people pushing these old things off of cliffs just to get rid of them!

Well, it's a shame and all, but if that's the worst news you ever hear, you're a very lucky young man, or your value system needs a little adjustment.

  19. It was pretty commonplace to do things like that. My grandfather seemed to hate cars, he said he would drive them till they broke, then just leave them there and buy another.

Its not like he could not fix them, he built mining machines, and fixed all the tractors he had. To him, a car was just a car.

I remember him telling me about his 49 Olds and how it was the biggest piece of shit ever made.

He was born in 1907, so I imagine he had quite a few cars in his time.

  22. Bad news yes, but the worst youve ever heard? Your very very lucky or just young. Wait till you here "sorry sir, but your best friend (my dog named Sarge) has cancer and needs to be put down or "sorry sir, your wife has cancer and needs surgery and chemo. Now that is the worst....................

Yes I would agree that this thread is not the worst you could ever hear. Try having a doctor tell you your son will not live much longer mabe a few more hours puts life in perspective.

OK, first off I agree with everyone I'm gonna dig a hole and push him into it, count me in! His exact words were that to him it was just a bunch of junk that he needed to get rid of, he is far from being a car guy. And also I agree that this is by far the worst news I could ever hear.

I couldn't agree more. I hate to hear stories like this, but in the larger scope of things, it is pretty trivial.

Perspective of today is different than perspective of 40 years ago or 40 years from now.
My Dad told me that when WWII broke out he took his T coupe and pushed it off a cliff, just so my grandmother wouldn't have to "deal with it". But in 1941, that was just a junky old car (he paid $7 for it).
When I was a kid, I was looking at a 1950 Ford in a parking lot and I remember saying to my dad, "you know someday someone will want that old heap". That was in 1960.
So, here's what you need to do:

    1. spend all your money buying up Chrysler K cars and Ford Grenadas and Taurus station wagons...and store 'em so the next generation will have them. (you'll be a hero)

    2. Worst news you ever heard? Maybe your thread title should have been something like..."Funny how "value" regarding old cars charges over the years"...or something like that. The worst news you will ever hear will make this look like a paper cut.

  28. Dig em up and give them to Jim Sibley, he can fix anything

Don't get why someone would go through all that work to keep them from getting stolen. Just push them out on the road and let them disappear. But then, I'm always looking for the easier route! ;)
