    Question guys:

I am starting to remove the rot on my 49 Plymouth. The rockers / sills are filled with foam (polyurethane?). Was this a factory thing or done durign a "repair"? Is it good or bad and should I refill it with foam when I fix it?

    thanks for any input!

It didn't come from the factory that way, they hadn't even invented expanded foam yet. Someone just used it for a filler so their bondo would stay in place.

That's a modern repair. The traditional repair was to use wadded up news papers.:D

Someone used the spray can home insulation to fill the void so that they could smear the bondo on top.

Do a proper repair with replacement rockers welded in place leaving drain holes like the factory did.

I have some replacement rockers for a 49 to 54 chrysler if you think they will work.

  7. foam will trap moisture and cause even more problems

sorry for the luck there. Its interesting the things you find in these old cars used to "fix" rust. I have found up to 3/4'' of bondo in my 50...along with screen, cardboard, foam, and fibergl*** mat. Like everyone will tell you, cut it out, buy or make a steel patch panel and get it fixed right.
