53 Chevy Belair 454 BB swap

    i bought a 53 chevy belair with a Ford 9" 3.89 posi rear end and i wanna know if it was possible to swap the engine with a 454 bb and what kind of midifications do i have to do?

  2. I have a buddy running a 572 in a 52 coupe. It has a Camaro clip but other than that there in not alot of surgery requiered. The inner fenders are even still there. Todd

    Aaron at US Kustoms here has a BBC in his 53 but it also has Mustang II ft suspension. I'm sure you would have major steering to exhaust issues with the stock front end, it's a tight PIA with a small block
     
  6. I don't know if you could pull it off with the stock suspension. With a M-2 it should be no problem.

    So if i put a Mustan II, steering wont be a problem?

    MII moves the steering from a for/aft setup next to the engine, to a rack and pinion in front of the engine. It gains you the clearance NEEDED to run exhaust with a big block. You'll want a new transmission crossmember as well. Street Rodder is running a series about putting all of the mods mentioned, and more, into a 49-54 chevy. Get a few back issues, it has been covered in depth.

    As has been said, its already tight with a small block.

    my 50 had a fat block in it at one time. Mustang II.. its go the same steering now as it did when it was the fat block..small block now. The frame is notched in one spot for the streeing rod to p*** next to the frame rail.
