A quality shop will give you quality chrome that does not need to be treated in any way. Waxing your chrome every time you wax your car and drying it well is the only way that you can preserve it.

I REALLY like chrome powder coat for underside parts that I want to look chrome. If the part fits in my oven, I powder coat it.

I worked at a plating shop for about 10 years and they work really hard to treat the water the parts are rinsed in and the water has to be neutral PH when it hit the drain or they get busted.

Don't treat your parts with baking soda. On a separate note, baking soda that gets very dry turns into washing soda. Washing soda is what we use to electrically remove rust from iron. This material will obsorb moisture and cause an electrlytic reaction and it could be good or bad depending on the part and how it is grounded.

Keep your chrome waxed with a good carnuba wax and don't fret.

  3. outotime30 , that's good advice about maintaining the appearance of the chrome..BUT what's going on here is corrosion and acid from the inside eating away at the windshield frame . you can put all the wax you want on the outside , that will not neutralize the acid

Why is that windshield frame assembled? It should be in two pieces when it is chromed and when it is delivered. Surely you dismantled it and removed the screws and hardware before the plating?
There should be no problem getting the acid and soda base micxture out because the frame IS hollow and when dismantled has big holes on each end and various holes for hinges, wiper mounting. etc.

.I think you guys need to see a real frame to understand. The frame is apart it just looks together. If you look at the end picture there is a big 1/4 by1/4 hole at the back side thats easy it the front part that is 3/16 thick it is double metal and a very small hole it is hard to see bubbles come out.wax on the outside won't do nothing they rot from the inside out.
