so i got another project ,for a buddy .
he brought me this killer looking 51 .but after getting behind the nitty gritty it is super rough ..who ever built this car (i know no one will claim this) really did a number on this car ..but im doing the 4 link,re-doing the air suspension , re-doing the the front clip , and suicide doors,

so heres a couple of the fabrication fouls i found(just to name a few)




bumper brackets



bumper splash pans


whats under the covers?


to top it off they dont even work

windshield wipers shaved via scoth tape

the spring perch is two pieces of angle iron welded together


yeah thats the body welded to the frame .

All I can contribute is that I'm really, really glad it's off the road.

buddy you have no idea ...its bagged with 1 leaf and a 350 combo !

Man, you can polish turds! Well, at least it's getting the treatment it deserves. Some people, you know the guy that did it probably thought he did a great job!

 

I can honestly say those are probably the worst welds I have ever seen. The outside looks nice but underneath is a deathtrap. Todd

 

wtf is right ! the the body looks nice in the pics , looks like some thought and time went into the bodywork , but that welding has to go ,man it looks like bubblegum under the table at the diner , shame about that butched dash --

 

Damn that looks a lot like the 52 buick my buddy brought to my shop last year Looked great on the outside.....scary as all hell underneath.

I'm not even a welder and that scares the shit out of me! It's a beautiful car though, deserves to be done right!

Thats not even cool. I cant believe someone would waste their to build something that sloppy. On the outside it looks great. Glad to hear it will be re done the right way.

 

well if that's how they weld on frames and such I gotta wonder what the chop looks like.

there is no way they can weld sheetmetal.

 

theres tons of bondo cracks on it ...its gonna take some time to get this one done right .

 

It looks like it has an under-bite. Seriously, you're probably saving someone's life.

What the hell were they welding with? Plaster of Paris? Holy sh!@$ that's scary

 

wow. i was pissed when i found the PO or PPO had welded new floor tins on top of the rusted out ones.

thats the risk you take when you buy someones elses hack shack.

will post more pics...i got a headache from this car ..its hard to focus on what im doing cuz my eyes are always looking at the crappy work saying " wtf !" and "why?!"

i feel better all of a sudden.

i was looking at redoing the rear sheet metal on my car (the seller openly disclosed some janky bodywork) and was getting a touch disheartened because i hate body work...

thankfully there were no shortcuts on anything else....

Oh boy!! That makes me feel better about my work. When it's your first project i guess it's normal to doubt yourself a little , but that's just plain "I DON'T GIVE A FUCK WORK!!"
