anybody ever have problems with airride technologys shockwaves breaking from regular driving on the streets. we are trying to figure out how long they last and if anybody has ever had any of these problems breaking the shock in half and the air adjustment tube inside coming out through the bag, excessive bouncing at ride height with 90psi in bags, who has had there shock waves the longest? basically anybody that has had any problems with them????
The Chris Alston Ch***isworks shockwaves have a ball joint at the top to reduce the bind in the travel.
you think its bind I have a heim joint on the bottom and bushing on the top and it doesnt look like there is bind it has always moved freely it is a good idea thanks
The only thing i have heard is to make sure the shock wave DOES NOT bottom out. You have to use a bumpstop of some sort.
I worked for a place for a long time that used them and we always had problems with them. everything from blowing out to cracked housing. and Cracker Head is right, do not let them bottom out, that is the main cause for a blow out.
Had a buddy who was running them in his late model custom Impala, he needed to keep spares with him because they would break, usually 1K miles from home at an event.
Ask Flt-Blk, he has had two of them break in his El Camino. We've had a lot of problems with them leaking at the shop where I work.
I've put probably 10k miles on the 1st generation pair in my '92 Caprice wagon and had one break during that time because it was hitting the frame where I didn't allow for enough clearance. The only other issues have been with the supplied bushings compressing under the weight of the car, which I've since replaced with spherical bearings. You need to ensure that the body has plenty of clearance around it and isn't contacting anything that would cause a side loading. Even if it appears you have enough clearance, the bushings may be deflecting enough to cause contact under compression. Are there any scuffs or scratches on the body that would indicate contact?
man, airride tech.told me i was the first person who had problems,I just finished my truck[57 chevy]in oct,08',had about 300 miles when one of my rear 7000 shockwaves went out ,the bag spilt and fuild started ******* out of it,they replaced it under warrenty but said it was from riding to low or to high, well it ain't from riding to high, anyway my dad has a 57 belair [super gold chainer, trailer queen]babies it never rides to low and his front wave came apart in the inside, but his have been in his car for 5 yrs,but it only has about 1000 miles on them, wouldnt warrenty, cost me 350 bucks to replace and it was different[the valving]airride has always had the best quallity and service but I think they need to figureout whats going on with this shockwave problem, good luck,,,dave
