Mesa, Az Cruise on Main, March 28th

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by thehazmatguy, Mar 23, 2009.

  1. There was some talk about setting up a H.A.M.B. meeting after last months event, so here's the reminder for this month!

It's the evening of March 28th.

I'm not sure what spot to suggest for a meeting area. The parking lot across from the Mesa Arts Center is where the action is but I think it might be tough to get a few parking spots there.

Maybe one of the side streets with parking on the street?

I will be there with my 97. Just look for the burgandy truck with white flames driving about 1/4" off the ground. That would be me.

    I'll be there.

  6. Time:
I think the "official" start time is at 6 p.m., but I'm thinking 6:30ish or 7ish at the earliest.

    Place:
I'll find some time early this week to take a drive down Main Street and see if I can pick out a spot. I'll try for something located near food and beverage.

Suggestions anyone? There's a brake or muffler shop on the south side of Main that has a decent sized parking lot. I don't remember a lot of light there though.

  7. I will try and make it in the coupe.

  8. I think I've picked a decent spot. Main and Macdonald. Drive along Main Street until you get to Macdonald, then turn South on Macdonald and park. Look for the gray building with "101" signs (Center of picture). 6:30 to 7 ish should be good.

Longtime valley guys might remember this building. I picked this spot because I think it used to be where the old Nile Theater/Bar/Club/Whatever used to be?

The Commemorative Air Force Museum at Falcon Field in mesa is also having a military transport show on the same weekend. Sat 28th. 9-4 and Sun 29th. 9-3. Lots of WWII to present vehicles and vintage aircraft to look at.

I'll be there too! Look for me and my newly functioning alternator!

I went to the last cruise 2/28 and had a good time! Lots of nice cars and a pretty decent crowd. This will just get bigger as the weather gets nice. From what the organizers say, there'll be some police presence this time to throttle back the smoky burnouts of last month.

I'll try to keep info and pics loaded at my site for each month.

This is one of the RAD cars from last cruise.

  15. I'll be there in my primer GTO. Yeah, last months cruise was a blast. I really enjoyed it.
That 'vette was cool too. It's nice to see one again that is not restored.
They look better without their front bumpers.

  16. Tonights cruisin on Main in Mesa was another good time. as good as last month, maybe better. The only Hamber I saw was Glen but, I am sure there were others there too.
Kerry, were you there? didn't see your wagon.

I ended up hanging out at Network service center across from the Jack in the Box. They had their grill going and had free hot dogs, pop and chips!
Network Service Centers are also an event sponsor for next weeks Nostalgic Show and Go!

Yes, that was cool, it was good to see people actually cruising instead of sitting in the lawn chairs.
I thought the Mesa PD was very cool, they sat in the back until someone did something stupid, Tempe would have been in the middle flexing their muscles.

    AMEN Brother!

This thing is going to catch on and happen more often too, at least I hope so. It's waaaay overdue.
I cruised Main and Central in the 70s and remember it well. I think I was on Central at least 3-4 nights a week. There was stuff going on down there just about every night. Street racing, cruising, girls everywhere, oh those days! It was the place to be. That's where you met your friends and made new ones too.

Tonight, there had to be at least 4 or 5 '55 -'57 chevs with either a straight axle, blown, tilt front end, or all 3! Plenty of prewar stuff too to awe at! Real hot rods. not a ricer to be seen

I saw a lot more cops there tonight too, but, I think we all expected that after last months shenanegans.

I just can't wait until I can drive my 577" blown altered wheelbase '65 Tempest funny car there to just cruise around in.
...and Central in 2 weeks, right??

  19. Last night was a good cruise. I was feeling under the weather so it was all I could do to stand around and try to carry on a conversation. It was worth it though.

Like someone else said, it's great to see and hear all the cars running around. I was a little surprised to see all the venders with t-shirts and food sales. This could really grow into something.

Applekrate, I saw you in your GTO turning off of Macdonald. I figured I'd see you later but I didn't. I said hi to Glen and got to talk to thesneakytiki about his 55 a bit. Pikesan99 was there too, but it seems like I see him everywhere! I think I saw Hot Rod Ron's car too.

I'm not sure I agree with some of the Mesa PD stuff though. I heard the crowd near Jack in the Box give a big "Booo" to a cop. I asked someone what happend - I guess the cop threatened jail time to anyone doing a burn out, and then threatened jail time to anyone in the crowd taunting the drivers to do burn outs. I saw plenty of tow trucks around so I bet a person or two got their cars impounded. That seems a bit excessive considering the nature of the event but it's much better than someone getting hurt. I totally agree that last months burn outs needed to come to an end. I hope they can find a happy medium between hijinx and responsibility.

I was there but ended up parking the wagon on a side street off of Main. Could not find a spot on MacDonald or Main. To many spectator cars were filling the streets. They need to post that the old cars get priority parking and the spectators park in public lots. I walked around for about 2 and a half hours and then did a few laps in the wagon. Next month we gotta find a better spot to meet.........Great night, but I wish I could have met some of you.

  22. I had great time cruising almost the entire time that I was there and parked with Glen for a little while. Will come out for the next one, Just post it on here so we can all be reminded.
