I thought that originally also. But the way the hood comes out and the rear window seems to be larger than a deluxe. Anyone else want to venture a guess?

I don't think the '39 mercs had hood sides separate from the top?
Looks like in the pic the sides are there but top is missing...

It looks to me like a VW bug with an aftermarket Ford front end.

I think it's a '39 Lincoln Zephyr Coupe Sedan, at least what's left of one.

What do you mean? That rusty that quick? They stopped making them in what 1976 in the US? Could be as old as a 49 for that matter (ok, maybe not a 49 because I think they only imported 2 that year but you get the point). I remember those stupid Ford fronts when I was a kid in the 70s.

Wow, that was quick. I responded to a post and by the time I finished typing, the post was gone! No wonder no "quote" came up!

Either way, cool photo. I guess green wheels with white walls are trad after all!

    ah ze wunderbug...

  17. I had a big hellyes!! when i saw the VW beetle mentioned.
but as i looked at it- there's just no way.
ALL of those beetle conversion kits would had to have been fiberglass to begin with. Also- I would have been really small, but i remember them as being a '40 Ford Deluxe front end- hands down. At least that's what i remember.

Anyhow- that rear fender doesn't look Beetle to me, either.
And who the hell would have adapted the bolt pattern over to accept some skinny steel wheel and real WW's? The backspacing on it looks wrong anyway. Every single one I remember seeing then and since has had those cheesy wire basket wheels and skinny whitewalls form the 70's.

  18. Its a mid 70s superbeetle. they had a smaller bolt pattern.

The nose is a Lincoln , But I am not sure about the body. It is most likely a Merc being it looks to be a 2 door. I am not sure that Lincoln had a 2 door sedan of this era?

It's sad because I really like the lines on this car. Maybe it's the torched carcass or the rusted sad state it's in, but I'm just drawn to the car.

First car that came to mind for me was a beetle.....

As far as the 5 bolt rims, I see no evidence that they are bolted to anything - could be just slipped into the fender of a car sitting on the ground. If they are, it appears to be a car with independent rear suspension, which would make it a beetle anyway.

The photo is a pastiche of various elements as is the car in the photo.
More of a fantasy than a reality, if you get my drift.

Can you say "Photo-shop" prototype, using enlarger and tinting and archaic stuff like film, negatives, chemicals.
