speed holes stengthen or weaken frame rails?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bibb86, Mar 23, 2009.

  1. Cut away material to "lighten" the car...
then add material (tubing) heavier than material removed to strenghten what you just cut out?

    Doesn't make sense to me.

I think it's just for looks. And usually doesn't look all that great.

I take this back you guys telling him to can the 427 are the ones w/ the holes in your head. PLEASE trade me all your 427's for all my small blocks. ill trade you 2 to1. as for the guy that started this thread, lighten the hell out of it, but do it safely (key word) and tell them they're speed holes. whatever the heck those are!

make it look the way you want it to look and brace some where else to strenghthen.

believe that is what people are trying to say

  3. You would drill the holes and then slip one half of the die down the tube and the other on the out side. Then when done you would cap the ends.

ya, but i think i might be a litt.e more than just slipping a die down the tube, it would be a pain to get it all lined up id think

Bibb, I'd check w/someone like Littleman or HR Packard, to see how the dies work out when you have the inside tube weld bead to contend with, a bit more than 3/16ths in those guys. No un-zipping now!
