Man do I have Gas!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 63CadGuy, Sep 8, 2004.

  1. Well, I bought a '56 Chevy tonight that I'm going to make into a g***er. I'll be picking it up next week. The plans are to make this thing look like it was straight out of the 60's. Small old fibergl*** buckets, 4-spd, 4 point cage, blue or green plexi windows old sun tach. It's had the springs inboarded already and comes with a fibergl*** front clip, not bad for $600. My buddy has a straight axle, springs, and steering box for it and I might have a lead on a 348 for it also. I'm totally stokked. I've been kicking this around for a couple of years now. I'd kind of like to paint some old racing numbers on it like they did back in the day and make them look like they've been on the car for 40 years, does anybody know how to get that effect when painting on a car?

Cool! Keep us posted on your progress. Are you going to cut off the front frame and replace it with rectangular tubing? I have a “California” style frame and I’m reluctant to go that far.

I think I am. My buddy has researched it out and thinks that's the best way to go, but I kind of like the look of the stock frame sticking out front and it would be a bit easier. The down side is the big clunky crossmember if I left the frame alone. I could cut that out, I don't know. I'm going to let him do his this winter and I'll see what problems he has by cutting off the front end. I'd think twice about cutting that one piece, but I don't know if they are worth that much more then the two piece frames. Maybe you could trade it plus cash to someone for a two piece?

As for the the weathered looking paint you could use steel wool to "fade" certain areas. I'm sure there's other ways but that's what I do and it's worked with one shot.

  12. Thanks for the info dvlscoupe, I'll give it a try.
