You are using a torque tube over that driveshaft, aren't you?

    KOOL,

Definitally put a safety loop/tube over the drive shaft.....sounds like your gonna do that anyway, but just make sure.....Ive dropped a drive shaft at 1/8 mile before on the dragstrip on "street night" and it wasnt fun

I'd cut the bed down 6 or so inches if it were mine (actually mine is sectioned 3-1/8 and 6) but, it depends where you are gonna locate your gas tank....Mine is fabbed up in front of the rearend.....check out the pics......despite all that, the truck looks great! Frame appears to be super strong..... good luck!

Great frame work and layout. The rear end supension design is layed out well. The stance looks good too. I'd bob the bed around 6 inches too.

The 4cylinder was used in Novas for several years then sold as the Mercruiser marine motor for a couple decades or more.

Thanks for all the positive feedback! Keeping the bed long for now, kind of like the stretch look. I will be looking for some cool add ons for the motor, going to put a sidedraft carb on it with custom made intake and make some headers "open of course".

  16. Works for me. I'm with you on the long bed, too. Cool engine choice, you've got yourself a cool little truck. I'd gusset those rear tranny mounts, just my 2¢ worth...

I like your build, wish it was mine!!!!!
I had a Chevy II (153 cu ") in my '23 dirt track roadster. Ram dual 45 DCOE sidedrafts, Clifford intake with their 280H cam. No bottom end but would love 3000-7000 rpm. You are going to like that motor. My gas milage was 9mpg. Yep 9 (nine) 4:11 gears and non overdrive 5 speed (T50) Like I said, motor liked being keep in upper rpm.

For the post re; iron duke. The Chevy II is not the iron duke. Chevy II is a 153 cu " while the iron duke is a "spin off" and is 151 cu " made for pontaic. The merc-marine is a 180 cu" (140 hp).
I'm with a lot of pepole on the board in that I really like that motor and I'm a model A pickup nut.

It seems to me that the rear suspension might bind. With a torque tube, as the rear end moves up and down, it moves in an arc with the center of the arc at the rear of the transmission. The rear of the torque tube housing is fixed to the banjo and does not pivot on the rear axle. The two bars at the back will not allow the axle to move in it's arc. They will force the rear axle to move in an arc with the center being at the rear mount of the bars. Those two arcs are not anywhere near the same plane or direction. All you really need is just two radius rods from the axle housings to the torque tube. Like the factory did it.
    Just my 2 cents.

Made some progress on my truck. Matt Howard at Deluxe fabbed up my steering and shortened the torque tube. I am working on mechanics here on out and then make it pretty. Had it out at the lame ass rockabilly fest last weekend in phoenix.

From a popular Jeep website: The 151 (2.5L) inline 4 engine was used in '80-'83 CJs including the CJ-8, CJ-7, and CJ-5.
